Is the GXR55-98 Super Core the top of the GXR55 range?

Yes. The GXR55-98 Super Core has the largest inducer of the GXR55 cores, 98.9mm, and the highest rating, 1500 to 2800 horsepower. Above it, the GXR57-98 uses the same compressor with a larger turbine and a rating up to 2900 horsepower.

What does Garrett rate it for?

1500 to 2800 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. Garrett calculates the figure from the choke flow of the compressor map, which represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the engine still needs the fuel, intercooling and calibration to use that airflow.

How much does it gain over the G55-2450?

Garrett quotes 24 percent more compressor flow for the GXR55-98 than for the G55-2450, with improved pressure ratio capability and higher efficiency at high flow. The GXR55 also uses a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate to reduce weight, according to Garrett.

Which turbine housings fit?

The six G55 kits Garrett lists: 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet, and 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet. All have a V-band outlet and no internal wastegate. The larger A/R choices suit a big engine at high rpm, and the smaller ones help spool.

Should I fit a speed sensor?

Yes, Garrett advises it. The maximum allowable shaft speed is 75,000 rpm, and running beyond it is at the risk of the owner and can lead to damage. The flange-style port accepts the Garrett speed sensor kit, which is sold separately from the core.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR55-98 Super Core, 98.9mm Inducer, 149mm Exducer

Garrett’s GXR55-98 Super Core has the largest inducer among the GXR55 cores, 98.9mm on a 149mm exducer XBoost wheel, over the 112mm by 106mm turbine and coded 9806. Garrett rates it at 1500 to 2800 horsepower for 3.0L to 12.0L engines and quotes 24 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2450. It is aimed at the largest builds that still want G55 housings and their T6 inlet options. Its 1500 horsepower floor is the highest of the GXR55 cores, so anything short of a very high power target will spool better on the GXR55-91 or GXR55-94.

Features

98.9mm inducer, the largest in the GXR55 range
24 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2450
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Flange-style speed sensor port

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 9806
Compressor inducer and exducer: 98.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2800 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR55-98 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1500 to 2800 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.24 and 1.40 A/R V-band inlet, or 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R T6 inlet, all V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G55 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
The same compressor on the larger GXR57 turbine is listed as the GXR57-98

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
