Does the G35-1050 Super Core in reverse rotation need an external wastegate?

Yes. Garrett lists only free-float housings for reverse-rotation G35 cores: 0.61, 0.83, 1.01 and 1.21 A/R with a V-band inlet and 0.83 and 1.01 A/R with a T3 inlet. None has an internal wastegate, so each turbocharger needs an external gate on its manifold.

How much power will a reverse G35-1050 support?

Garrett rates the G35-1050 Super Core at 700 to 1050 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 5.5L. That figure is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, not a measured result. The fuel system, boost, intercooling and calibration have to be sized for that output to approach it.

G35-1050 or G35-900 for my twin-turbo build?

The two share the 68mm G35 turbine. The G35-1050 uses a 68mm compressor rated to 1050 horsepower with a 130,000 rpm limit, while the G35-900 uses a 62mm compressor rated to 900 horsepower at 145,000 rpm. Choose the G35-900 unless the target genuinely needs the extra flow.

Can a standard rotation G35 housing be used?

No. Garrett states that reverse-rotation turbine housings are not interchangeable with standard-rotation housings. The scroll of a reverse housing directs exhaust onto the wheel in the opposite direction, so this core must be paired with one of the reverse G35 kits listed by Garrett.

What maximum speed does Garrett allow?

Garrett lists 130,000 rpm for the G35-1050, and operation above it is at the risk of the owner. Sensors fit the machined port in the compressor housing and are sold separately; on a twin-turbo engine, logging both turbochargers shows whether one side is working harder than the other.

Description

Garrett G35-1050 Super Core, 68mm Reverse Rotation

Garrett’s G35-1050 Super Core in reverse rotation puts the 68mm compressor, the larger of the two first-generation G35 wheels, on a center section that spins opposite to a standard core. Rated by Garrett at 700 to 1050 horsepower for engines from 2.0L to 5.5L, it belongs on twin-turbo engines built for four-figure output. Reverse G35 housings are free float only, which means an external wastegate for each turbocharger, and anything short of a fully built engine will leave this compressor working well below its range.

Water and Oil

Garrett supplies a -4AN oil restrictor fitting with a 1mm orifice, sized to deliver the recommended 40 psi of oil pressure, and two -6AN water fittings with two plugs. Garrett recommends running the water lines on opposite sides of the center housing.

Features

68mm compressor inducer and 84mm exducer, 78 percent maximum efficiency
Mar-M alloy turbine wheel rated to 1050C (1922F)
One-piece center housing and backplate with twin piston rings
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 68mm and 84mm
Compressor trim and A/R: 65 trim, 0.75 A/R
Turbine inducer and exducer: 68mm and 62mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum compressor efficiency: 78 percent
Maximum turbocharger speed: 130,000 rpm
Rotation: Reverse

What’s Included

G35-1050 reverse rotation super core with compressor housing fitted
Oil restrictor and water fittings

Applications

The G35-1050 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 700 to 1050 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Reverse-rotation turbine kits: Free float only, in 0.61, 0.83, 1.01 and 1.21 A/R V-band and 0.83 and 1.01 A/R T3

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G35 turbine housing kits in reverse rotation
Every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett states that reverse-rotation turbine housings are not interchangeable with standard-rotation housings
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 130,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
