How is the 149mm GXR55-88 Super Core different from the map groove versions?

The compressor wheel and construction. This GXR55-88 Super Core uses a 149mm exducer, a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate, and a rating of 1200 to 2500 horsepower. The map groove cores use a 133mm exducer, rated 1000 to 2350, with an 84,000 rpm limit instead of 75,000.

How much horsepower is it rated for?

Garrett rates it up to 2500 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L, with 1200 as the lower bound. The figure is calculated from compressor choke flow and stands for potential flywheel horsepower, so the real outcome depends on the fuel system, boost, intercooling and calibration.

Will it fit a class with an 88mm inducer rule?

The inducer measures 88.9mm, and Garrett lists the core for drag race classes and classes with compressor inducer rules. Rules vary between sanctioning bodies and change over time, so Garrett asks buyers to verify the class rules before purchasing a core for a class car.

Which turbine housings does Garrett list?

Six G55 kits: 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet, and 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet, all with a V-band outlet and an external wastegate layout. The housing is sold separately, and the manifold needs a provision for an external gate.

What is the speed limit for this core?

Garrett publishes 75,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed and states that running above it is at the risk of the owner. Use a speed sensor in the flange-style port, sold separately, so the tuner can keep shaft speed under the limit at full boost.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR55-88 Super Core, 149mm Compressor Exducer

Garrett’s GXR55-88 Super Core with the 149mm compressor exducer is a different build from the 133mm map groove cores that share its name. The 88.9mm inducer sits on a 149mm XBoost wheel, the center housing and backplate are one aluminum piece, and Garrett raises the rating to 1200 to 2500 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines, quoting 40 percent more compressor flow than the G55-1950. The turbine is the 112mm by 106mm wheel, coded 8806 in Garrett’s frame reference. It suits an 88mm inducer build aiming past the 2350 horsepower ceiling of the 133mm cores; the trade is a 75,000 rpm speed limit against their 84,000 rpm.

Construction

Garrett describes the design as patented. The one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate reduce weight, and a flange-style port takes a speed sensor. Garrett lists six G55 turbine housings, in V-band and T6 inlet forms, for this core.

Features

88.9mm inducer on a 149mm exducer XBoost wheel
40 percent more compressor flow than the G55-1950
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Fits G55 V-band and T6 inlet turbine housings

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 8806
Compressor inducer and exducer: 88.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2500 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR55-88 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1200 to 2500 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.24 and 1.40 A/R V-band inlet, or 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R T6 inlet, all V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G55 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class
Map groove versions with a 133mm exducer are listed in the GXR55-88 range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
