Can I fit the GXR40-64 Super Core to my G40 turbine housing?

Yes. Garrett states that G-XRace uses the same twin-scroll T4 and V-band turbine housings as the G-Series, so a G40 housing bolts to the GXR40-64 Super Core. Garrett lists eight G40 kits for it, from 0.85 to 1.19 A/R, all free float with a V-band outlet.

How does the GXR40-64 compare with the G40-900?

Garrett quotes 23 percent more compressor flow for the GXR40-64 than for the G40-900, along with a higher pressure ratio capability, better efficiency at high flow and a cooler intake charge. The turbine housings carry over, so the upgrade is a core swap plus a calibration update for the extra airflow.

What horsepower range does Garrett give?

Garrett lists 500 to 1150 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 6.0L. The number is worked out from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it describes potential flywheel horsepower. Real output depends on fuel, boost, intercooling and tuning, and the turbine housing A/R chosen shifts where the power arrives.

Does it ship with a speed sensor?

No. The core has a fully machined, flange-style port ready for a sensor, and the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately. Garrett sets the maximum shaft speed at 109,000 rpm, and a sensor is the reliable way for a tuner to confirm the turbocharger stays below that number.

Is an external wastegate required?

Yes. All eight G40 housings Garrett lists for this core are free float, with no internal wastegate port or actuator. Boost control comes from an external wastegate mounted on the exhaust manifold, so a manifold with a wastegate flange is part of the build.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR40-64 Super Core, 64.9mm Inducer, 70mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR40-64 Super Core puts a 64.9mm XBoost compressor wheel on the G40 frame, and Garrett quotes 23 percent more compressor flow than the G40-900. On the exhaust side a 77mm inducer, 70mm exducer turbine wheel gives it more breathing room than the GXR38, which suits engines up to 6.0L. Garrett rates it at 500 to 1150 horsepower for 2.0L to 6.0L. Because it takes the same V-band and twin-scroll T4 turbine housings as the G40, an owner moving up from a G40 keeps the exhaust side and swaps the core. For a larger engine in an inducer-limited class this is the logical step; for a street car with a modest power goal it is oversized.

Features

Fully machined flange-style speed sensor port for easy sensor installation
Lightweight aluminum backplate
XBoost compressor with enhanced pressure ratio capability and a lower intake temperature
Accepts G-Series G40 twin-scroll T4 and V-band turbine housings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 64.9mm and 88mm
Compressor trim and housing A/R: 53 and 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 77mm and 70mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 109,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

Applications

The GXR40-64 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 6.0L
Power range: 500 to 1150 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G40 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G40 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 109,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett’s G40 cores and the rest of the GXR40 range are listed separately

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
