Is the GXR50-80 Super Core an upgrade from a G50-1650?

Yes, in Garrett figures. The GXR50-80 Super Core flows 13 percent more than the G50-1650 and adds improved pressure ratio capability. It takes G50 T6 inlet, V-band outlet turbine housings, so check the A/R already on the engine against the four sizes Garrett lists.

How much horsepower is the GXR50-80 rated for?

Garrett rates it up to 1850 horsepower, with a range of 500 to 1850 on engines from 2.5L to 11.0L. Garrett bases the number on compressor choke flow, which represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the engine combination sets the result on the dyno.

Where does it sit in the GXR50 family?

In the middle. The GXR50-76 has a 76.6mm inducer rated to 1750 horsepower and the GXR50-88 an 88.9mm inducer rated to 2050. All three share the 123mm exducer, the 99mm by 94mm turbine, the 93,000 rpm limit and the G50 turbine housings.

Which turbine housing does it take?

Any of the four G50 kits Garrett lists: 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 or 1.39 A/R, each a T6 inlet and V-band outlet design for an external wastegate. A lower A/R helps spool on the smaller end of the displacement range, and a higher A/R helps a large engine breathe at high rpm.

What speed limit applies?

Garrett sets 93,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed. Running past it is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure. The flange-style port is ready for the Garrett speed sensor, which is sold separately from the core.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR50-80 Super Core, 80.9mm Inducer, 94mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR50-80 Super Core is the middle of three GXR50 cores, an 80.9mm inducer and 123mm exducer XBoost compressor with the GXR50 turbine, 99mm at the inducer and 94mm at the exducer. Garrett lists it at 500 to 1850 horsepower on 2.5L to 11.0L engines and quotes 13 percent more compressor flow than the G50-1650. A G50-1650 owner on G50 housings can step to this core for more airflow, and an engine targeting 1850 horsepower with no class inducer limit will find it a balanced pick between the GXR50-76 and GXR50-88. Below the middle of that range, the GXR47 frame is lighter work for the exhaust.

Features

80.9mm inducer and 123mm exducer XBoost wheel
13 percent more compressor flow than the G50-1650
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Flange-style speed sensor port

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 8094
Compressor inducer and exducer: 80.9mm and 123mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 99mm and 94mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 93,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 1850 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR50-80 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 11.0L
Power range: 500 to 1850 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G50 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, external wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G50 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 93,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
The GXR50-76 and GXR50-88 are listed separately

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
