What comes with the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate?

Garrett states the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate ships with its springs, fittings, flanges and V-band clamps. That covers the hardware to weld the inlet and outlet flanges and clamp the gate in place, leaving the builder to supply the runner, the dump or return pipe and any lines.

Is the silver GVW-60 the same as the other colours?

Yes, apart from the finish. Garrett anodizes the GVW-60 actuator cover in red, blue, black or silver, and the 60mm valve, stainless housing, diaphragm, springs and included parts are the same on every colour, so pick the finish that suits the engine bay.

Is a 60mm wastegate too big for my engine?

It can be. Garrett does not rate valve sizes by power, but a 60mm gate is meant for builds with very high exhaust flow, such as large engines on big-frame turbochargers. If a GVW-50 can hold the boost target, the 60mm adds size and cost without a gain.

Does mounting angle matter with a large valve?

Yes. Garrett states that a 90 degree connection can reduce flow capacity by up to 50 percent and cause over boosting. A 45 degree runner with a smooth transition lets the 60mm valve flow as designed, and the gate must never be mounted to the turbine housing.

How are the coolant ports used?

The actuator body has two M8x1.0 coolant ports, and Garrett supplies AN-3 fittings for them. If you cool the gate, both ports must be connected to form a loop. Garrett rates liquid cooling for up to a 52 percent drop in actuator body temperature.

Description

Garrett GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate Kit, Silver

Garrett’s GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate in silver is the 60mm GVW in a silver anodized finish, the plainest look on Garrett’s largest valve. Garrett states that springs, fittings, flanges and V-band clamps are included, so it arrives ready to mount to a manifold built for it. The 60mm valve makes most sense on large engines with big-frame turbochargers that need to keep boost under control while sending a large share of exhaust around the turbine. For smaller builds, the 40mm, 45mm and 50mm GVW sizes are easier to package and cost less.

Installation

Garrett recommends installation by a qualified automotive technician. The gate mounts to a manifold runner at about 45 degrees with a smooth transition, never to the turbine housing, and the V-band clamp nuts are torqued to 15 Nm (11 ft-lb) per the Garrett guide.

Features

60mm valve, the largest GVW size
Springs, weld flanges, V-band clamps and fittings included
Optional liquid cooling through AN-3 ports
Silver anodized cover on the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate

Specifications

Valve diameter: 60mm
Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, silver anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-60 wastegate, silver
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-60 is also sold in red, blue and black, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
