Is the GXR42-71 Super Core made for DTA Light?

Yes. Garrett states that part 952766-5006S is for the DTA Light drag race class with its 71mm compressor inducer rule, and the GXR42-71 Super Core measures exactly 71mm at the inducer. Confirm the current rule book before ordering, since class limits can change between seasons.

What comes in the box?

The super core, which is the center section with the compressor housing fitted, plus water fittings, which Garrett lists as included. The turbine housing, external wastegate and speed sensor are separate purchases, so budget for all three when pricing the build.

How much horsepower can the GXR42-71 support?

Garrett rates it at up to 1300 horsepower, across 500 to 1300 on engines from 1.4L to 7.0L. The rating comes from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the engine combination and the calibration decide the real number.

Which turbine housing should I pair with it?

Garrett lists six G42 free-float housings: 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R in V-band inlet form, and the same three in divided T4. A small-displacement engine generally needs the 1.01 for response, while a larger engine at high rpm can use the 1.28 without choking the exhaust.

Why is the speed limit higher than other GXR42 cores?

Garrett publishes 120,000 rpm as the maximum for this part, against 109,000 rpm on the GXR42-68 and GXR42-72, and its wheel sizes differ from those cores. Treat 120,000 rpm as the ceiling for this core and run a speed sensor so the tuner can confirm it.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR42-71 Super Core, 71mm Inducer, DTA Light Class

Garrett’s GXR42-71 Super Core is built for the DTA Light drag racing class and its 71mm compressor inducer rule, with a 71mm by 94mm XBoost compressor wheel over an 82mm by 75mm turbine. Garrett rates it up to 1300 horsepower and gives the widest displacement window in this group, 1.4L to 7.0L, with 500 horsepower as the lower bound. It ships with water fittings and has a flange-style speed sensor port. A DTA Light competitor should start here; a racer outside that class with no 71mm rule gets more flow from a GXR42-72 or a GXR45.

Design

XBoost compressor aerodynamics raise pressure ratio capability and hold efficiency at high flow, which Garrett says gives cooler, denser air. The backplate is aluminum to save weight, and Garrett describes the design as patented. The frame reference, 7175, follows the common convention of compressor inducer and turbine exducer in millimeters.

Features

71mm compressor inducer for the DTA Light class
Flange-style speed sensor port for easy installation and shaft speed monitoring
Lightweight aluminum backplate
Takes G42 V-band and divided T4 turbine housings

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 7175
Compressor inducer and exducer: 71mm and 94mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 82mm and 75mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 120,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 1300 (Garrett rating)

What’s Included

GXR42-71 super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The GXR42-71 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 7.0L
Power range: 500 to 1300 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G42 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G42 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 120,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
