Is the 0.83 A/R G30 Turbine Housing Kit a good all-round choice?

For most G30 builds, yes. The 0.83 A/R G30 Turbine Housing Kit balances spool and top-end flow on 2.0L to 3.0L engines and suits the G30-770 and G30-825 especially well. Only very small engines, or 3.5L builds targeting the top of the G30-900 rating, are better served by another size.

What is the difference between this and the 0.83 A/R T3 housing?

The A/R is the same; the inlet is not. This housing has a 3 inch V-band inlet for fabricated manifolds with a clamp flange, while part 740902-0090 has a T3 inlet for conventional bolted manifolds. Both use a V-band outlet and both are free float, needing an external wastegate.

Can I use it with an internal wastegate?

No. This is a free-float housing with no wastegate port, so it relies on an external wastegate on the manifold. Garrett makes an internally gated 0.83 A/R V-band G30 housing as part 740902-0094, for builders who would rather keep boost control on the turbocharger.

Will this housing clock to my manifold angle?

Yes. Garrett states that the V-band connection between the center housing and its non-wastegated turbine housings allows 360 degree orientation. Set the housing to the angle the manifold and downpipe need, then tighten the clamp, rather than modifying the exhaust to suit a fixed position.

Which G30 core pairs best with a 0.83 A/R housing?

The G30-770 and G-Series II G30-825, both with a 58mm compressor and rated from 475 horsepower, sit naturally with 0.83 A/R on a 2.0L to 3.0L engine. The smaller G30-660 and G30-725 often suit 0.61 A/R on small engines, while a G30-900 on 3.5L usually wants 1.01.

Description

Garrett G30 Turbine Housing Kit, 0.83 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s G30 Turbine Housing Kit in 0.83 A/R V-band is the all-round free-float housing for standard-rotation G30 cores, sitting between the quick 0.61 and the high-flow 1.01 and 1.21 sizes. Garrett lists part 740902-0087 for the G30-660, G30-770 and G30-900, plus the G-Series II G30-725 and G30-825, with a 3 inch V-band inlet and 3.5 inch V-band outlet. For most 2.0L to 3.0L builds running a G30-770 or G30-825 toward 700 horsepower, this is the sensible default. Only the extremes argue for something else: very small engines want 0.61, and 3.5L builds near 900 horsepower want 1.01 or more.

The Middle Ground

The 0.83 A/R balances spool against back pressure for the 60mm G30 turbine wheel, which is why Garrett also offers this A/R in T3, reverse-rotation and internal wastegate forms. As a free-float housing it relies on an external wastegate, and Garrett states that the V-band joint to the center housing allows 360 degree orientation.

Features

0.83 A/R, the balanced choice across the G30 range
3 in V-band inlet and 3.5 in V-band outlet
Free float for external wastegate control
Shared by first-generation and G-Series II G30 cores

Specifications

Garrett part number: 740902-0087
A/R: 0.83
Turbine inlet and outlet: 3 in (76.2mm) V-band and 3.5 in (90.16mm) V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Rotation: Standard
Material: Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Applications

Garrett lists this G30 Turbine Housing Kit for these standard-rotation super cores, rated from 350 to 900 horsepower on 2.0L to 3.5L engines:

Garrett G30-660: 880693-5001S
Garrett G30-725 G-Series II: 934117-5001S
Garrett G30-770: 880693-5002S
Garrett G30-825 G-Series II: 934117-5002S
Garrett G30-900: 880693-5003S

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this free-float housing has no wastegate port
The G30 super core is sold separately
Standard rotation; the reverse-rotation 0.83 A/R V-band housing is part 740902-0097
For an internally gated 0.83 A/R V-band housing, see Garrett part 740902-0094

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
