Do I need an external wastegate with the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit in 0.64 A/R?

No. This version of the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit uses a GT28R housing with an internal wastegate, so boost is regulated at the turbine housing itself. That suits a manifold with no external wastegate flange, which is common on engines that came with a T25 turbocharger from the factory.

What flange does this housing use?

The turbine inlet is a T25 flange and the outlet is a 5-bolt pattern. Check the manifold and downpipe against the Garrett flange diagram for the GTX2860R and GTX2867R Gen II before ordering, because a V-band manifold calls for one of the free-float housings instead of this one.

Should I choose the 0.64 or the 0.86 A/R internal wastegate housing?

The 0.64 A/R spools sooner and suits smaller engines or a build that values midrange torque. The 0.86 A/R gives up some response for more flow at high rpm and suits larger engines in the 1.4L to 2.5L range, or builds aimed at the top of the Garrett rating.

How much power can this assembly make?

Garrett rates the GTX2860R Gen II core at 200 to 475 horsepower. The rating comes from compressor choke flow and stands for potential flywheel horsepower. With the smaller 0.64 A/R internal wastegate housing, this kit leans toward a responsive street engine more than a build at the very top of that figure.

What is included and how does it arrive?

Garrett ships the 849894-5001S super core, with compressor housing, and the 827690-0003 turbine housing kit in separate boxes, along with a gasket kit. The owner or installer bolts the housing to the center section, sets its orientation for the manifold, and then fits the finished turbocharger.

Description

Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.64 A/R T25 Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit in 0.64 A/R combines the 46mm Gen II super core with a GT28R turbine housing that has a T25 inlet flange, a 5-bolt outlet and an internal wastegate. That layout lets the turbocharger replace a T25-flanged unit on a factory-style manifold without adding an external gate, which makes it the practical choice for an engine that already uses a T25 turbocharger. Garrett rates the core at 200 to 475 horsepower on 1.4L to 2.5L engines, and the 0.64 A/R favors spool, so it suits the lower and middle part of that range. It ships as a super core and a housing kit, assembled by the owner.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 46mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.64 A/R housing with T25 inlet, 5-bolt outlet and internal wastegate for a factory-style manifold

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4647
Compressor inducer and exducer: 46mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.64 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Wastegate: Internal
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2860R Gen II super core 849894-5001S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0003, 0.64 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 200 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: T25 turbine flange; internal wastegate, no external gate needed

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2860R Gen II range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
