Is the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit a complete turbocharger?

Not out of the box. The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit arrives as a super core with compressor housing, a separate 0.72 A/R turbine housing kit and a gasket kit. Once the housing is bolted to the core it becomes a complete GTX2860R Gen II turbocharger, which is why Garrett sells it as an assembly kit.

Who should pick the 0.72 A/R instead of the 0.57 A/R?

Builders with more displacement or more rpm. A larger A/R slows exhaust gas less on its way into the turbine, which lowers backpressure and helps top-end power, at the cost of boost arriving slightly later. On a 2.0L to 2.5L engine the 0.72 A/R is usually the more balanced match for this core.

Will a Gen II core bolt into my Gen I piping?

Yes. Garrett states that GTX Gen II turbochargers are outline interchangeable with their Gen I equivalents, so intake and charge pipes made for the earlier GTX2860R carry over. The exception is the compressor housing, which does not accept a Gen I compressor wheel.

What is the horsepower range of this turbocharger?

Garrett lists 200 to 475 horsepower for the GTX2860R Gen II, on engines from 1.4L to 2.5L. The number reflects the choke flow of the compressor map, which Garrett treats as potential flywheel horsepower rather than a promise at the wheels. Supporting parts and tuning set the real output.

How is boost controlled with this housing?

With an external wastegate. The 0.72 A/R housing is free float, meaning it has no internal flapper or actuator, so a separate wastegate on the exhaust manifold bleeds exhaust around the turbine to hold the target boost. The wastegate is sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.72 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit with the 0.72 A/R housing is the freer-flowing of the two V-band options for this 46mm core, built for an external wastegate manifold. Garrett supplies the 849894-5001S super core and the 827690-0002 GT28R turbine housing kit in separate boxes with a gasket kit, and the owner assembles them. Against the 0.57 A/R version it trades a little low-rpm response for less exhaust backpressure up top, so it suits a 2.0L to 2.5L engine, or a smaller engine that revs hard and lives near the 475 horsepower end of Garrett’s rating. For a small engine that wants boost early, the 0.57 A/R is the better pick.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 46mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.72 A/R free-float housing with V-band joints at both ends, clockable to the manifold and downpipe

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4647
Compressor inducer and exducer: 46mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.72 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Wastegate: External (free float)
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2860R Gen II super core 849894-5001S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0002, 0.72 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 200 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: V-band turbine flange with an external wastegate

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
An external wastegate is required, because this turbine housing has no internal wastegate
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2860R Gen II range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
