What comes in the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit?

The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit is two boxes and a gasket kit: the 849894-5001S super core with its compressor housing fitted, and the 827690-0001 GT28R turbine housing kit in 0.57 A/R. Garrett ships them separately, so the installer bolts the housing to the core before the turbocharger goes on the engine.

Why choose the 0.57 A/R housing over the 0.72 A/R?

Choose it for response. The 0.57 A/R is the smaller of the two V-band free-float housings Garrett lists for this core, so exhaust energy reaches the turbine wheel faster and boost builds earlier. The cost is more backpressure near redline, which is why higher-revving or larger engines in the range usually suit the 0.72 A/R.

Does this kit need an external wastegate?

Yes. The 0.57 A/R housing is a free-float design with no wastegate port or actuator of its own, so the exhaust manifold needs an external wastegate ahead of the turbine inlet. Without one there is nothing to limit boost, and the turbocharger could quickly exceed its rated shaft speed.

How much power is the GTX2860R Gen II rated for?

Garrett rates the GTX2860R Gen II from 200 to 475 horsepower on engines between 1.4L and 2.5L. Garrett calculates that figure from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it describes potential flywheel horsepower. Fuel, intercooling, boost and the calibration decide what a particular engine actually makes.

Can I monitor turbo speed on this kit?

Yes. The compressor housing has a machined speed sensor port that ships plugged and opens with a 5mm Allen key. Garrett sets a maximum of 185,000 rpm for this core and recommends a sensor to watch it, using the GT and GTX speed sensor kit, which is sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.57 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit in this form pairs the 46mm Gen II super core with the smallest housing Garrett lists for it, a 0.57 A/R GT28R turbine housing with V-band inlet and outlet and no internal wastegate. The two parts arrive in separate boxes with a gasket kit, and the builder bolts them together. Garrett rates the core at 200 to 475 horsepower on 1.4L to 2.5L engines, and the tight 0.57 A/R housing biases that range toward early boost, which suits a 1.6L to 2.0L street engine on an external wastegate manifold. A 2.5L engine chasing the top of the rating will outgrow it.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 46mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.57 A/R free-float housing with V-band joints at both ends, clockable to the manifold and downpipe

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4647
Compressor inducer and exducer: 46mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.57 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Wastegate: External (free float)
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2860R Gen II super core 849894-5001S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0001, 0.57 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 200 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: V-band turbine flange with an external wastegate

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
An external wastegate is required, because this turbine housing has no internal wastegate
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2860R Gen II range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
