Will the Speed Sensor Street Kit fit my G25 turbocharger?

No. Garrett states that the GT and GTX speed sensor kit does not apply to G Series turbochargers. The G25, G30, G35 and other G Series models, along with the GTX47, GTX50 and GTX55 Gen II, use the G Series version of the Speed Sensor Street Kit, part 781328-0003, which includes the bolt that retains its sensor.

What is the difference between the Street and Pro kits?

The gauge. The Street kit includes a Garrett gauge along with the sensor and wiring, while the Pro kit drops the gauge and is wired for a data logger or engine management system, with the sensor powered from a 5 volt supply. Both read compressor wheel speed the same way.

Do GTX Gen II turbochargers need machining for the sensor?

No. GTX Gen II compressor housings come with a fully machined speed sensor port, closed by a plug that comes out with a 5mm Allen key. Older GT and GTX housings without a port need machining to the drawings in the Garrett installation instructions before the sensor goes in.

Can I log turbo speed with the Street kit?

Yes. Garrett states that all of its speed sensor kits are compatible with data loggers. On the Street kit the green signal wire goes to the logger, and Garrett instructs that the orange wire stays disconnected when the gauge and a logger are used together on the same sensor.

Why monitor turbocharger speed at all?

Every Garrett turbocharger has a maximum allowable shaft speed, and running above it can cause damage and premature failure. Comparing shaft speed and boost on the compressor map shows whether the turbocharger is near its limit, confirms the match to the engine, and helps a tuner keep it inside its map.

Description

Garrett Speed Sensor Street Kit, GT and GTX Models with Gauge

Garrett’s Speed Sensor Street Kit for GT and GTX models reads compressor wheel speed and shows it on a Garrett gauge, so the driver can see how hard the turbocharger is working. Garrett lists it for GTX Gen II, GTX, GT and GTW turbochargers, and states that the GT and GTX kit does not apply to G Series units. The sensor threads into the compressor housing, and GTX Gen II housings already have a machined port, plugged from the factory. It is the kit for an owner who wants a cabin readout, and the wrong kit for a build that will only log speed through an ECU or data logger, where the Pro kit does the job without a gauge.

Why Shaft Speed Matters

Garrett points out that plotting boost against shaft speed on a compressor map shows where a turbocharger makes its best power, and that speed data can estimate engine airflow without a flow bench. That helps confirm the turbocharger match and shows whether it is close to overspeed.

Features

Speed sensor, wiring loom and Garrett gauge in one kit
Gauge maximum speed recall holds the highest wheel speed for five minutes
Threaded sensor with lock nut, set 0.8mm from the blade edge per the Garrett instructions
Signal can also feed a data logger, or an aftermarket ECU set up to limit compressor speed

What’s Included

Speed sensor
Wiring loom
Gauge

Applications

The Speed Sensor Street Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists it by turbocharger family:

Garrett families: GTX Gen II, GTX, GT and GTW
Not for: G Series turbochargers or the GTX47, GTX50 and GTX55 Gen II
Housings without a port: Machined to the drawings in the Garrett installation instructions

Notes

Not for G Series turbochargers; the G Series versions are listed with the other Garrett speed sensor kits
A Pro version without a gauge is also available for data logger installs
Garrett recommends installation by a qualified automotive technician
Compressor housings without a machined port must be machined to the Garrett drawings before fitting the sensor

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
