Which G47-1650 Super Core is this, the 109mm or the 120mm?

This is the 120mm exducer version, listed by Turn 14 as G4720 and by Garrett as the G47-1650 80 by 120mm. It shares the 80mm inducer and the 93mm turbine with the 109mm version, but uses a 45 trim wheel and a lower speed limit of 93,000 rpm.

What is the maximum turbo speed of the G4720 core?

Garrett lists 93,000 rpm, compared with 102,500 rpm for the 109mm exducer version. Exceeding 93,000 rpm is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure, so a speed sensor in the compressor housing is the practical way to stay inside the limit.

How much horsepower can this core support?

Garrett rates it at up to 1650 horsepower on 2.5L to 10.0L engines, calculated from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. The Garrett page gives the bottom of the range as 825 in one place and 925 in another, which in either case marks this as a core for large, high-output engines.

Which turbine housings does the G47-1650 Super Core take?

It takes the Garrett G47 kits in 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, each with a T6 inlet and a V-band outlet. Garrett describes the G47-1650 Super Core as outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers, and the G47 T6 outlet is 17mm shorter than the GTX housing.

Do I need an external wastegate?

Yes. All four Garrett G47 turbine kits are free-float designs with no internal wastegate, so boost control has to come from a separate wastegate on the exhaust manifold. Size the gate for the power target, since a core rated to 1650 horsepower moves a large volume of exhaust.

Description

Garrett G47-1650 Super Core, G4720 80mm Inducer 120mm Exducer

Garrett’s G47-1650 Super Core in the G4720 version carries the larger of the two G47-1650 compressor wheels, an 80mm inducer with a 120mm exducer at 45 trim, matched to the 93mm G-Series turbine. Garrett rates it at up to 1650 horsepower on 2.5L to 10.0L and caps it at 93,000 rpm, lower than the 109mm version. It is worth picking over the G4709 only when its compressor map fits the engine better at the boost target, and a buyer unsure which map is right should settle that with the tuner first.

Turbine and Housing

On the exhaust side, Garrett states up to 20 percent more flow and up to 9 percent better spool than the GTX47 Gen II, both estimated from flow, efficiency and inertia. The center housing and backplate are one lightweight aluminum piece, and the T6 turbine housing outlet is 17mm shorter than the GTX design.

Features

120mm exducer compressor wheel at 45 trim with GTX Gen II aerodynamics
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
One-piece lightweight aluminum center housing and backplate

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 45
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 93mm and 88mm
Turbine trim: 90
Maximum turbocharger speed: 93,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

Applications

The G47-1650 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 10.0L
Power range: Up to 1650 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G47 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R free float, T6 inlet and V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G47 turbine housing kits separately
All four G47 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 93,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett also builds the G47-1650 with an 80mm by 109mm compressor wheel

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
