Is the G45-1600 Super Core bigger than the G45-1500?

Yes, at the compressor inducer. The G45-1600 Super Core uses an 80mm inducer against 76mm on the G45-1500, with the same 109mm exducer and the same turbine. Garrett rates it 100 horsepower higher at 1600 and gives it a speed limit of 102,500 rpm.

What does the 1600 in the name mean?

It is the top of the Garrett power rating: 750 to 1600 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines. Garrett calculates the figure from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it represents potential flywheel horsepower rather than a promise for any one engine. Fuel, boost and calibration decide the real number.

Which turbine housings are offered for the G45-1600?

Garrett lists eight G45 turbine kits: 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R, each with either a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet. All are stainless steel and free float with a V-band outlet. A larger A/R suits bigger engines and higher rpm, and a smaller A/R brings boost in sooner.

Can it run in Super Street or Street Fighter?

Garrett sized the G45-1600 for Sport Front Wheel Drive, Ultimate Street, Super Street and Street Fighter drag racing classes. Limits on turbocharger and inducer size are set by each sanctioning body and change over time, so confirm the current rule for the class before committing to the core.

What do I need besides the super core?

A G45 turbine kit, an external wastegate, an oil feed and drain, coolant lines for the supplied water fittings, and a calibration for the new turbocharger. Garrett also recommends a speed sensor so the core can be held below its maximum allowable speed of 102,500 rpm.

Description

Garrett G45-1600 Super Core, 80mm Compressor Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G45-1600 Super Core is the largest first-generation G45, with an 80mm inducer and 109mm exducer compressor wheel at 54 trim, rated at 750 to 1600 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines. Garrett states its compressor aerodynamics flow up to 16 percent more than the GTX4508R, and it shares the 89mm Inconel turbine with the rest of the G45 family. It is for builds that have outgrown a G45-1500 or want the extra 4mm of inducer; a street engine aiming well below 1000 horsepower will spool a G42 sooner.

Rotating Assembly

The Inconel turbine wheel has an 89mm inducer and flows up to 56 lb/min, with G-Series turbine aerodynamics that Garrett rates at 14 percent more flow than the GTX45R. The shaft turns in ceramic dual ball bearings with steel cages, and the backplate is lightweight aluminum.

Features

Compressor aerodynamics that flow up to 16 percent more than the GTX4508R, per Garrett
Sized by Garrett for Sport Front Wheel Drive, Ultimate Street, Super Street and Street Fighter drag classes
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports
Water fittings included with the super core

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 109mm

Compressor housing A/R: 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 89mm and 82mm
Turbine trim: 84
Bearing system: Dual ceramic ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 102,500 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G45-1600 super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The G45-1600 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 750 to 1600 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G45 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R free float, each with a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet and a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G45 turbine housing kits separately
All eight G45 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 102,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
