When should I choose the 1.40 A/R GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit?

When the engine is large enough to spool a GTX55 easily and peak power is the goal. The 1.40 A/R GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit gives the least backpressure of the T6 sizes, helping the 98mm GTX5533R and the GTX5544R Gen II cores reach their flow ratings.

Will a 1.40 A/R spool on a 3.0L engine?

Not quickly. Garrett gives a 3.0L to 12.0L range for the GTX55 cores, and a small engine at the bottom of it produces too little exhaust flow to drive a 1.40 A/R housing early. The 1.12 A/R T6 housing is the better choice there.

Is the inlet T6 or V-band?

This version is a T6 inlet with a V-band outlet. Garrett also makes a 1.40 A/R GTX55 housing with a V-band inlet, in short outlet and long outlet with cross bolts versions. Choose by the flange on the manifold collector, since the inlets do not interchange.

Is the 1.40 A/R T6 housing divided?

No. Garrett lists every GTX55 turbine housing, including this 1.40 A/R T6 version, as undivided. It suits a single-entry T6 manifold, and a twin-scroll manifold would lose its pulse separation at the housing inlet, so plan the manifold around an open collector.

Does the housing come with a wastegate?

No. It is a free-float housing with no internal wastegate, and no wastegate ships with it. Boost control requires an external wastegate on the manifold, sized for the exhaust flow of an engine feeding a large-frame turbocharger at full load.

Description

Garrett GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.40 A/R T6 Inlet, Free Float

Garrett’s GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet is the largest T6 housing Garrett lists for the GTX5533R and GTX5544R Gen II cores, a free-float housing with a V-band outlet built for engines that make serious exhaust flow. It pairs naturally with the bigger compressors, such as the 98mm GTX5533R or the 106mm GTX5544R Gen II, where a tighter housing would add backpressure at high rpm. On a smaller engine it will spool late and feel soft below peak, and the 1.12 or 1.24 A/R is a better match.

Flow at the Top End

Garrett states the 98mm GTX5533R Gen II flows 223 lb/min and the 106mm GTX5544R Gen II up to 258 lb/min of air. Moving that much air needs a turbine side that passes exhaust freely, and the 1.40 A/R volute gives the 112mm by 102mm turbine wheel the most room Garrett offers on a T6 inlet.

Features

Largest T6 inlet A/R in the GTX55 range
V-band outlet for a clamped downpipe joint
Free-float, undivided design for an external wastegate
The GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit for the biggest GTX5533R and GTX5544R builds

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
