What base pressure range does the GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate cover?

The GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate ships at 1 bar, or 14.5 psi, and can be sprung from 0.2 bar up to 1.6 bar, which is 3 to 23 psi. The GVW-40 is the only GVW that reaches 1.7 bar. Garrett publishes a spring chart listing the combinations.

How is the coolant loop connected?

Fit the supplied AN-3 water fittings to both M8x1.0 ports on the actuator body and run coolant in through one and out through the other. Garrett states both ports must be used. Etched water symbols on the body mark the coolant ports.

Why choose silver over the other colours?

Only for appearance. Garrett offers the GVW-45 in red, blue, black and silver, and the finish is the anodizing on the aluminum actuator cover. The valve, stainless housing, springs and included hardware are identical, so the engine bay styling decides.

Is 45mm enough valve for a large-frame turbocharger?

Often not. A large-frame turbocharger on a big engine makes a lot of exhaust flow, and holding a low boost target means sending much of it through the gate. Garrett offers the GVW-50 and GVW-60 for those cases, while the 45mm suits mid-size builds.

Which mounting angle works best?

Garrett recommends a 45 degree connection with a smooth transition into the wastegate runner. Mounting at 90 degrees can reduce flow capacity by up to 50 percent and cause over boosting, so a well-shaped runner lets the 45mm valve deliver its full capacity.

Description

Garrett GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate Kit, Silver

Garrett’s GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate in silver is the 45mm GVW with a natural silver anodized actuator cover, aimed at mid-size turbocharger builds that want an external gate without a loud colour. Garrett rates the stainless valve housing for exhaust peaks up to 1050C (1922F) and gives the actuator coolant ports that, in its thermal cycle test, cut body temperature by up to 52 percent. It is a good fit where the gate sits in a hot, tight engine bay. On a small engine the GVW-40 is enough, and on a large one the GVW-50 or GVW-60 flows more.

Heat Management

In the Garrett thermal cycle test the uncooled actuator body peaked at 270C (518F), and with liquid cooling it held 130C (266F). Keeping the actuator cooler protects the diaphragm and springs, which is where a wastegate in a hot engine bay usually loses consistency.

Features

45mm valve for mid-size turbochargers
Coolant ports rated for up to 52 percent lower actuator temperature
1050C (1922F) rated stainless valve housing
Silver anodized cover on the GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate

Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, silver anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-45 wastegate, silver
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-45 is also sold in red, blue and black, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
