Is the G45-1610 G-Series II CHRA a complete turbocharger?

No. It is the center housing rotating assembly: center housing and backplate, bearing cartridge, shaft with the Inconel turbine wheel, and the 79mm compressor wheel. A G45 compressor housing and turbine housing are needed. Garrett also offers the G45-1610 as a super core with the compressor housing fitted.

How much power can the G45-1610 make?

Garrett rates the G45-1610 G-Series II CHRA at 750 to 1,610 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines. The rating is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel delivery, boost, intercooling, turbine A/R and the calibration decide the actual output.

How does the G45-1610 differ from the G42-1585?

They share a 79mm compressor wheel. The G45-1610 uses a larger 89mm turbine against 82mm on the G42, which reduces exhaust restriction on big engines at high power. The trade is later boost, so the G45 suits large-displacement engines that can drive a bigger turbine.

What turbine housings are available for the G45?

Garrett lists eight G45 turbine kits in 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R, each offered with a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet and a V-band outlet. All are external wastegate housings, so boost control comes from an external wastegate on the manifold.

Do I need a calibration after installing this CHRA?

Yes. Garrett makes a calibration a requirement for using the added compressor flow. The tuner should also keep the shaft under the 120,000 rpm limit Garrett sets for the G45, and a speed sensor in the compressor housing, sold separately, provides that reading.

Description

Garrett G45-1610 G-Series II CHRA, 79mm Compressor

Garrett’s G45-1610 G-Series II CHRA is the biggest-turbine core of the G40, G42 and G45 family, pairing a 79mm compressor inducer with an 89mm inducer turbine wheel and sold without housings. Garrett rates it at 750 to 1,610 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 8.0L, and the 750 horsepower floor is the honest guide: this is for large V8s and race engines running serious boost on a single turbocharger. It shares its compressor with the G42-1585 but moves to a larger turbine, which suits big-displacement engines that would otherwise choke the G42 exhaust side. On anything short of a dedicated high-power build it is oversized.

Turbine and Center Housing

Garrett describes an Inconel turbine wheel with G-Series aerodynamics for flow and boost response, and states that the G-Series turbine wheel flows 15 to 20 percent more than GTX with peak efficiency up to 74 percent. The one-piece center housing and backplate reduce failure points, and the V-band joint to the turbine housing allows 360 degree orientation.

Features

89mm inducer, 82mm exducer turbine wheel, trim 84
79mm compressor inducer and 98mm exducer with G-Series II aerodynamics
Reuses Gen I G45 compressor and turbine housings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 79mm and 98mm
Compressor trim: 65
Turbine inducer and exducer: 89mm and 82mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 120,000 rpm
Matching super core: 938339-5004S

Applications

The G45-1610 G-Series II CHRA is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 750 to 1,610 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G45 turbine kits: 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R external wastegate housings with V-band inlets or divided T4 inlets, all with V-band outlets

Notes

The compressor housing and turbine housing are not included; the G45-1610 super core comes with its compressor housing
All G45 turbine kits Garrett lists are external wastegate, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett states that running above 120,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
