Can the GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate go on the turbine housing?

No. Garrett states the GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing. It mounts on a runner from the exhaust manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, and it is intended to control boost with a free-float housing that has no internal gate.

How do I connect a boost controller?

Run the solenoid lines to the actuator air ports, which use M10x1.0 banjo fittings with hose barbs for 6mm hose. The springs set minimum boost and the controller adds pressure above it. Garrett advises against using the speed sensor port as the pressure source.

What size hose fits the fittings?

The air fittings take 6mm, or 0.25 in, inside diameter hose. The water fittings convert the M8x1.0 actuator ports to AN-3, so coolant lines need AN-3 ends. Both are included, along with plugs for any port left unused, so only the hose and coolant line ends need to be sourced.

What is the maximum exhaust temperature?

Garrett gives peak exhaust temperatures up to 1050C, or 1922F, for the stainless valve housing. Heat reaching the actuator is the limiting factor, which is why Garrett added coolant ports that cut actuator body temperature by up to 52 percent in testing.

Does it come ready to weld in?

Yes. The kit includes inlet and outlet weld flanges and V-band clamps, so the flanges are welded to the runner and the dump or return pipe, then the gate clamps between them. Springs, fittings, plugs and fasteners are included too.

Description

Garrett GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate Kit, Black

Garrett’s GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate in black combines a 45mm valve with a black anodized actuator cover and the plumbing details a boost control setup needs: M10x1.0 air ports with banjo hose barb fittings for 6mm hose, and M8x1.0 to AN-3 water ports. It ships at 1 bar and can be sprung from 0.2 to 1.6 bar, with a boost controller adding target pressure above the spring. It suits mid-size turbochargers on free-float turbine housings. Very large engines that need to keep boost low will be better served by a GVW-50 or GVW-60.

Plumbing the Ports

Garrett supplies two water fittings, two 14mm banjo air fittings with washers and three air plugs. Garrett warns that the speed sensor port must not be used as the pressure source, and that a two-port solenoid arrangement may not give a smooth boost curve.

Features

45mm valve in a stainless steel housing
Banjo air fittings for 6mm boost control hose
AN-3 water fittings for an optional coolant loop
Black anodized cover on the GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate

Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, black anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-45 wastegate, black
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-45 45mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-45 is also sold in red, blue and silver, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
