Does the GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate come with flanges?

Yes. The GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate kit includes inlet and outlet weld flanges and V-band clamps, plus springs, water fittings, banjo air fittings, washers, a valve seat and plugs. Garrett states every fastener, spring, fitting, clamp and flange needed is in the box.

Is the silver version any different inside?

No. Silver is one of four anodized finishes Garrett offers on the actuator cover, along with red, blue and black. The 50mm valve, stainless housing, diaphragm, springs and hardware are the same on all of them, so performance and fitment do not change with the colour chosen.

Is 50mm the right valve size for my turbocharger?

For large-frame turbochargers and engines making high exhaust flow, usually yes. Garrett does not publish power ratings by valve size. Compact turbochargers on small engines need less valve, while the biggest builds that struggle to hold a low boost target can step up to the GVW-60.

Where does the gate go on the manifold?

Ahead of the turbine on the exhaust manifold or collector, on a runner joining at about 45 degrees. Garrett states a 90 degree join can reduce flow by up to 50 percent and cause over boosting, and the gate must never be mounted to the turbine housing.

Can the actuator be liquid cooled?

Yes. The actuator has two M8x1.0 coolant ports with AN-3 fittings supplied, and Garrett states both must be used to form a loop. Cooling cut actuator body temperature from 270C to 130C in the Garrett thermal cycle test. Plug both ports if the gate will run uncooled.

Description

Garrett GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate Kit, Silver

Garrett’s GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate in silver puts a silver anodized actuator cover on the same 50mm valve and stainless body as the red, blue and black versions. Garrett ships it complete with springs, inlet and outlet weld flanges, V-band clamps and water and air fittings, so the fabricator only needs to build the manifold runner and the dump or return pipe. It suits larger turbochargers on free-float housings that need a big valve to hold boost. It is more gate than a compact turbocharger on a small engine requires, where the GVW-40 or GVW-45 fits better.

In the Box

Garrett states all fasteners, springs, fittings, V-bands, clamps and flanges are included. The kit list covers the wastegate, its springs, V-band clamps for the inlet and outlet, inlet and outlet weld flanges, a valve seat, water fittings, banjo air fittings, washers and port plugs.

Features

50mm valve for large turbocharger builds
Complete kit with weld flanges, V-band clamps and fittings
Springs set to 1 bar, adjustable from 0.2 to 1.6 bar
Silver anodized cover on the GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate

Specifications

Valve diameter: 50mm
Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, silver anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-50 wastegate, silver
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-50 50mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-50 is also sold in red, blue and black, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
