What comes with the G40-1250 G-Series II CHRA?

The center housing rotating assembly: the one-piece center housing and backplate, bearing cartridge, shaft and turbine wheel, and the 71mm compressor wheel. Compressor and turbine housings are separate purchases, or carried over from a first-generation G40. Garrett also offers the G40-1250 as a super core with the compressor housing.

How much horsepower can the G40-1250 make?

Garrett rates the G40-1250 G-Series II CHRA at 500 to 1,250 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 6.0L. The rating comes from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel system capacity, boost, intercooling and the calibration decide what the engine really produces.

Is the G40-1250 too big for a 3.0L six?

Not necessarily. Garrett lists 2.0L as the bottom of the range, but a 71mm compressor on a 77mm turbine suits engines that will use the airflow at high rpm and high boost. A 3.0L six aiming well past 1,000 horsepower is a reasonable fit; a milder 3.0L build is better on a smaller frame.

What turbine housings can I run?

Garrett lists eight free float G40 turbine kits in 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R. Each A/R is offered with a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet, and all use a V-band outlet. Larger A/R housings favor top-end flow, smaller ones bring boost in earlier.

What is the maximum speed of the G40-1250?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable turbocharger speed at 125,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure. A speed sensor fitted to the compressor housing, sold separately, lets the tuner watch shaft speed directly.

Description

Garrett G40-1250 G-Series II CHRA, 71mm Compressor

Garrett’s G40-1250 G-Series II CHRA is the high-airflow option in the G40 frame, matching a 71mm compressor inducer to the 77mm G40 turbine in a bare center housing rotating assembly. Garrett rates it at 500 to 1,250 horsepower on 2.0L to 6.0L engines, which places it on built V8s and large six-cylinder engines making four-figure power. With the same turbine as the G40-1000 but a much larger compressor, it is the core to choose when the engine is running out of compressor, not turbine. On an engine that will stay around 700 horsepower it is more compressor than the build needs.

Center Section

The G-Series II center housing and backplate are one piece, and a shorter bearing cartridge leaves room for twin piston rings on both sides of the shaft wheel assembly. A V-band joint between the center housing and turbine housing allows 360 degree orientation, which helps when packaging a large-frame turbocharger.

Features

71mm compressor inducer, 88mm exducer, trim 65
Up to 10 percent more compressor flow than G-Series Gen I at peak pressure ratio
Drops into first-generation G40 compressor and turbine housings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 71mm and 88mm
Compressor trim: 65
Turbine inducer and exducer: 77mm and 70mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm
Matching super core: 938272-5002S

Applications

The G40-1250 G-Series II CHRA is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 6.0L
Power range: 500 to 1,250 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G40 turbine kits: 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R free float housings with V-band inlets or divided T4 inlets, all with V-band outlets

Notes

No compressor or turbine housing is included; the G40-1250 super core comes with the compressor housing
G40 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
