Who should buy the low boost GT2860RS Super Core?

An owner with a GT2860RS already on the engine who wants to replace the center section and keep a milder boost setting. Turn 14 identifies this version by actuator 480009-9, described as low boost. A new build is usually better served by the complete GT2860RS turbocharger, which arrives with its turbine kit.

What horsepower range does Garrett give the GT2860RS?

Garrett gives 250 to 360 horsepower on 1.8L to 3.0L engines. The figure is derived from the choke flow of the compressor map and stands for potential flywheel horsepower, so a mild street engine will sit at the low end while a fully supported, tuned engine can approach the top of it.

Does the GT2860RS Super Core come with a turbine housing?

No. The GT2860RS Super Core is the center section only, so the existing GT28 housing is reused or a new one is bought. Garrett offers 0.64 and 0.86 A/R T25 internally wastegated kits and 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free-float kits for this turbocharger.

How do the two GT2860RS super cores differ?

Only by the actuator reference Turn 14 attaches to each. This one carries 480009-9, called low boost, and the other carries 480009-6, called high boost. Garrett does not list spring pressures on its GT2860RS page, so BA can confirm the rating against the boost level before the order is placed.

Do I need to run coolant lines to this core?

Yes. Garrett specifies a water-cooled center housing for the GT2860RS, so both oil and coolant connections are needed. Water cooling lowers heat soak in the bearing housing after shutdown, which helps a ball bearing cartridge last on a car that sees hard use and frequent heat cycles.

Description

Garrett GT2860RS Super Core, Low Boost Actuator

Garrett’s GT2860RS Super Core in the low boost actuator version, listed by Turn 14 with actuator reference 480009-9, is the replacement center section for a GT2860RS running a milder boost target. The GT2860RS is a small-frame GT Series turbocharger with a 47mm compressor inducer, a ball bearing cartridge and a water-cooled housing, and Garrett rates it at 250 to 360 horsepower from 1.8L to 3.0L. On a street four-cylinder making 250 to 300 horsepower it is a sensible match. On a high-boost build pushing the top of that range, the high boost actuator version is the one to look at.

Features

Ball bearing cartridge in a water-cooled CHRA, per Garrett’s GT2860RS specification
Cast compressor wheel with original GT Series aerodynamics, 47mm inducer and 60mm exducer
Works with the GT28 turbine kits Garrett lists for the GT2860RS

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 47mm and 60mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.60
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine trim: 76
Bearing system: Ball bearing, water cooled
Actuator reference: 480009-9, low boost (per Turn 14)

Applications

The GT2860RS Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett rates the GT2860RS for these engines:

Engine displacement: 1.8L to 3.0L
Power range: 250 to 360 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GT28 turbine kits: T25 inlet internal wastegate in 0.64 or 0.86 A/R, or V-band free float in 0.57 or 0.72 A/R

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; the complete GT2860RS turbocharger is sold separately
Garrett’s GT2860RS page does not list this super core part number, so confirm the actuator rating and housing fit with BA first
Garrett states its GT28 turbine kits are not directly interchangeable and may need exhaust modifications
The high boost actuator version is also listed

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
