Is the Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 701596-6001 a complete intercooler?

No. It is a bare bar-and-plate core weighing 31.4 pounds. Garrett gives the core thicker side plates that protect the fins and serve as a surface for welding on end tanks, so a fabricator adds the tanks, inlet, outlet and mounts to finish this Air-to-Air Intercooler Core for a specific vehicle.

What power level is this core suited to?

Garrett rates it at 1260 horsepower for normal operating conditions, second only to the 1275 horsepower 858893-6003 in its air-to-air range. It suits large-displacement or big-turbo builds past 1000 horsepower. On a 400 horsepower car the size and weight are hard to justify when smaller Garrett cores cover that target.

Will a 27.8 inch core fit behind my bumper?

Measure first. The core alone is 27.8 inches along the hot flow length and 12.7 inches tall before end tanks are added, and the tanks and inlet and outlet add to that. Many cars and trucks have the width for a full-width front mount, but the opening, crash structure and radiator position decide it.

Why is the 5.1 inch thickness important?

Cold flow width is the depth the cooling air passes through, and at 5.1 inches this is the thickest core in the Garrett air-to-air table. More depth adds cooling capacity within the same frontal area, though it also asks more of the airflow through the grille, so it suits a front mount with a clear path for air.

How do I choose between Garrett cores?

Garrett advises starting with the available space, then choosing the highest supported horsepower core that fits. If a full-width opening is available, this 27.8 by 12.7 by 5.1 inch core gives 1260 horsepower of capacity. If height is easier to find than width, the tall 858893 cores are the alternative.

Description

Garrett Air-to-Air Intercooler Core, 27.8 x 12.7 x 5.1 in, 1260 HP

Garrett’s Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 701596-6001 is a long, thick bar-and-plate core rated at 1260 supported horsepower, measuring 27.8 in of hot flow length, 12.7 in of height and 5.1 in of thickness and weighing 31.4 lb. That shape, wide and fairly short with the thickest section in Garrett’s air-to-air table, is the classic layout for a full-width fabricated front-mount intercooler. It is the core to build around when a vehicle has the width across the bumper opening and a target past 1000 horsepower; where that width is missing, Garrett’s tall 858893 cores give similar ratings in a narrower shape.

How Garrett Sizes Cores

Garrett rates each core for a specific horsepower so a builder can match it to a power target, and advises starting from the available space and then choosing the highest supported horsepower core that fits. The rating is for normal operating conditions; Garrett states that maximum potential can be higher depending on setup and calibration.

Features

Horizontal-flow bar-and-plate core with perpendicular cross-flow
5.1 in cold flow width, the thickest air-to-air core in Garrett’s current table
The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core has side plates that provide a surface for welding on end tanks

Specifications

Garrett part number: 701596-6001
Flow: Horizontal
Length, hot flow: 27.8 in (706 mm)
Height, no flow: 12.7 in (323 mm)
Width, cold flow: 5.1 in (130 mm)
Core weight: 31.4 lb
Supported power: 1260 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Applications

The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by power and packaging:

Supported power: 1260 horsepower (normal operating conditions)
Core face: 27.8 in wide by 12.7 in tall, 5.1 in thick
Typical use: Full-width fabricated front-mount intercooler

Notes

Supplied as a core; Garrett describes the side plates as a surface for welding on end tanks, which are not part of this listing
Hot flow length is the distance charge air travels through the core; no flow height and cold flow width are its external height and thickness
The 1260 horsepower rating is for normal operating conditions; Garrett states maximum potential can be higher
Garrett offers other core sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
