Is the G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core an upgrade for my G45-1475?

Yes. Both use 79mm by 98mm compressor wheel dimensions and the 89mm turbine, and Garrett states that G-Series II uses the Gen I compressor and turbine housings. A G45-1475 owner can keep the turbine kit and plumbing, swap the core, and recalibrate to use the added flow.

How much horsepower does Garrett rate the G45-1610 for?

Garrett rates it at 750 to 1610 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 8.0L. The figure is derived from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it is potential flywheel horsepower. The turbine A/R, the fuel system, boost pressure and the calibration all affect where a particular engine ends up.

Does the G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core need a tune?

Yes. Garrett states that a calibration is required to take advantage of the increased compressor flow. The G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core will physically replace a Gen I core, but the gain over the G45-1475 only appears once boost and fueling are set for the new compressor map.

What turbine housing does it use?

Any of the eight Garrett G45 kits: 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 or 1.44 A/R, with a V-band inlet for single inlet manifolds or a T4 divided inlet for twin-scroll manifolds. All are stainless steel, rated by Garrett to 1050 degrees Celsius, and all of them need an external wastegate.

What is the maximum speed for the G45-1610?

Garrett lists 120,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed on the G45-1610 page. Operation above the limit is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure, so a compressor housing speed sensor is the safe way to tune it.

Description

Garrett G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core, 79mm Compressor

Garrett’s G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core takes the 79mm by 98mm compressor dimensions of the G45-1475 and gives them second-generation aerodynamics, which Garrett says add up to 10 percent compressor flow over Gen I at peak pressure ratio and peak turbo speed. The rating climbs to 750 to 1610 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines, on the large 89mm G45 turbine. It is the core to buy for a new G45 build in this compressor size, and a straight upgrade for a G45-1475 owner who is willing to recalibrate.

Second-Generation Design

Garrett joins the center housing and backplate into one piece to cut failure points, and shortens the bearing cartridge so twin piston rings fit on both sides of the shaft wheel assembly, lowering the chance of oil leakage at the seals. The Inconel G-Series turbine wheel is quoted at 15 to 20 percent more flow than GTX and up to 74 percent peak efficiency.

Features

Uses the Gen I G45 compressor and turbine housings, so an existing G45 setup carries over
Increased efficiency at high flow rates, according to Garrett
Water fittings included

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 79mm and 98mm
Compressor trim: 65
Compressor housing A/R: 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 89mm and 82mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 120,000 rpm

What’s Included

G45-1610 G-Series II super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The G45-1610 G-Series II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 750 to 1610 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G45 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R free float, each with a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet and a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G45 turbine housing kits separately
All eight G45 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 120,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
A calibration is required before the added compressor flow produces more power
Garrett also sells the G45-1610 CHRA for owners keeping their Gen I compressor housing

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
