Is the 1.12 A/R G55 Turbine Housing Kit a good middle choice?

Yes, for many engines. The 1.12 A/R G55 Turbine Housing Kit brings boost in sooner than the 1.24 and 1.40 sizes while flowing more than the 1.00. It suits mid-size engines or a smaller G55 compressor where both drivability and power matter.

Will it fit a GXR55 map groove core?

Yes. Garrett lists this housing on the pages for both GXR55-88 map groove super cores, the 0.18 in version 934174-5002S and the 0.25 in version 934174-5007S, as well as the standard GXR55-88, GXR55-91, GXR55-94 and GXR55-98. The map groove only changes the compressor side, so the turbine housing choice is the same.

Does it fit a GTX5533R or GTX5544R Gen II?

Garrett does not list it for those cores. The GTX55 Gen II turbochargers use a 102mm exducer turbine with their own housing kits, such as parts 761208-0015, -0025 and -0017, while this housing is built for the 106mm exducer G55 turbine wheel.

How is boost controlled?

With an external wastegate. This is a free-float housing without an internal flapper, so the manifold needs a wastegate flange ahead of the turbine. The gate outlet is then routed back into the exhaust or vented, depending on the build.

What power will the cores make with this housing?

Garrett rates its G55 cores from 1000 up to 2900 horsepower and the GXR55 cores up to 2800, each calculated from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. The housing A/R mostly shapes when boost arrives and how freely the engine breathes, rather than setting the ceiling.

Description

Garrett G55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.12 A/R T6 Inlet, Free Float

Garrett’s G55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.12 A/R sits one step above the smallest G55 housing, a stainless T6 inlet, V-band outlet free-float housing that gives a G55 or GXR55 core more room to breathe at high rpm while keeping boost onset reasonable. It is a fit for mid-size engines in Garrett’s 3.0L to 12.0L range that have outgrown the 1.00 A/R, or for builds pairing a smaller G55 compressor with a responsive exhaust side. On a big-cube engine chasing maximum flow it is too tight, and the 1.40 A/R is the one to look at.

Choosing the A/R

A/R is the ratio of the volute area to its distance from the turbine center. A smaller number drives the turbine harder for faster spool; a larger number lowers backpressure for more top-end flow. The 1.12 A/R is the second smallest of the four T6 sizes Garrett lists for the G55.

Features

1.12 A/R volute between the quick 1.00 and the free-flowing 1.24
T6 inlet and V-band outlet on a stainless steel casting
Free float, for an external wastegate
The G55 Turbine Housing Kit fits both G-Series G55 and G-XRace GXR55 cores

Specifications

Garrett part number: 761208-0072
A/R: 1.12
Turbine inlet and outlet: T6 and V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Turbine wheel: 112mm inducer, 106mm exducer
Material: Stainless steel

Applications

Garrett lists this G55 Turbine Housing Kit for these super cores:

Garrett G-Series G55 super cores: G55-1850, G55-1950, G55-2100, G55-2250, G55-2450, G55-2650 and G55-2900
Garrett G-XRace GXR55 super cores: GXR55-88 including its 0.18 in and 0.25 in map groove versions, GXR55-91, GXR55-94 and GXR55-98

Power ratings of those cores: 1000 to 2900 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Notes

Turbine housing only; the G55 or GXR55 super core is a separate purchase
Needs an external wastegate on the manifold
Other T6 sizes are 1.00 A/R, 1.24 A/R and 1.40 A/R

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
