Should I choose the G55-2650 Super Core or the G57-2750?

Choose by exhaust flow. Both use a 102mm compressor inducer in a 0.96 A/R housing, but the G57-2750 moves to a 118mm turbine against the 112mm wheel on the G55-2650 Super Core. Garrett rates the G57 higher and starts its range at 1400 horsepower, against 1000 for the G55.

How much power does Garrett rate the G55-2650 for?

Garrett gives 1000 to 2650 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. The rating is calculated from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so it reflects what the compressor can supply rather than what any particular engine will make on the dyno.

What is the G55-2650 speed limit?

Garrett lists 74,500 rpm, down from 84,000 rpm on the 85mm to 98mm G55 cores. Operating above 74,500 rpm is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure, so a speed sensor in the compressor housing should be part of the build.

What is the compressor exducer size on the G55-2650?

Garrett publishes two figures. The feature list on the G55-2650 page gives 133mm, while the reference table for part 880547-5021S gives 144mm. This listing uses the table value, and a builder who needs the exact dimension for packaging should check the Garrett flange diagram before ordering.

Does the G55-2650 need water cooling?

No. The G55 center housing is air cooled, according to Garrett, so the only lines are an oil feed and drain. Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN feed, an oil restrictor, an oil filter that meets or exceeds OEM specification and 40 to 45 psi at maximum engine speed.

Description

Garrett G55-2650 Super Core, 102mm Inducer 0.96 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-2650 Super Core moves to a 102mm compressor inducer and, per Garrett’s reference table, a 144mm exducer in a 0.96 A/R housing, on the 112mm G-Series turbine shared by every G55. Garrett rates it at 1000 to 2650 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines and lowers the speed limit to 74,500 rpm. Against the G57 core with the same 102mm wheel, the G55 uses a smaller turbine, which suits an engine that needs this much compressor without the exhaust flow to fill the G57 turbine.

Center Housing and Bearings

Garrett builds the G55 around an air-cooled, one-piece aluminum center housing with a 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge in steel cages, and keeps the GTX oil inlet and outlet specifications. The G-Series turbine wheel is quoted by Garrett at up to 15 percent more flow than GTX.

Features

102mm compressor inducer in a 0.96 A/R compressor housing
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
Uses the same six stainless steel G55 turbine kits as the smaller G55 cores

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 102mm and 144mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 74,500 rpm

Applications

The G55-2650 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2650 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 74,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
