Can a G40-900 owner upgrade to the G40-1000 G-Series II Super Core?

Yes. Garrett calls G-Series II a direct upgrade path for first-generation owners, and the G40-1000 G-Series II Super Core uses the same compressor and turbine housings as the G40-900. An owner can fit this super core to the existing turbine housing, or buy the CHRA, part 938271-5001S, to keep the compressor cover as well.

How much power will it support?

Garrett rates the G40-1000 at 500 to 1000 horsepower on engines between 2.0L and 6.0L. The figure is the potential flywheel horsepower calculated from compressor choke flow, and Garrett states that a calibration is required to take advantage of the increased flow, so the tune is part of the upgrade.

Which turbine housings fit the G40?

Garrett lists eight G40 kits, all free-float stainless steel housings rated to 1050 degrees Celsius. Four have a V-band inlet and four a divided T4 inlet, each in 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, and all need an external wastegate on the manifold.

What rotation is this core?

Garrett lists one G40-1000 super core part number and does not label its rotation, and the G40 turbine kits on the same page carry no rotation split either, so the core and those housings pair directly. Check the housing part numbers against the Garrett G40 table before ordering.

What is the speed limit?

Garrett lists 125,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the G40-1000 and warns that running above it can lead to damage and premature failure. Garrett sells speed sensors separately, and the sensor reads shaft speed from the compressor housing so the tuner can stay below the limit.

Description

Garrett G40-1000 G-Series II Super Core, 62mm Compressor

Garrett’s G40-1000 G-Series II Super Core is the 62mm member of the G40 family with second-generation compressor aerodynamics, worth up to 10 percent more flow than G-Series Gen I at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed by Garrett’s figures. Its Garrett rating is 500 to 1000 horsepower for 2.0L to 6.0L engines, and it runs an Inconel turbine wheel with free-float G40 housings in V-band or divided T4 form. It is the sensible G40 for a built engine that values response over outright flow; a build targeting 1100 horsepower and up should look at the 71mm G40-1250.

Center Housing and Turbine

Garrett made the center housing and backplate one piece and shortened the bearing cartridge to fit twin piston rings on both sides of the shaft. The Inconel turbine wheel uses G-Series aerodynamics that Garrett says flow 15 to 20 percent more than GTX, with peak efficiency up to 74 percent.

Features

62mm compressor inducer, 88mm exducer, 51 trim, 0.80 A/R compressor housing
Uses first-generation G40 compressor and turbine housings
V-band center-to-turbine joint, clockable through 360 degrees with non-wastegated housings
Water fittings included

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 62mm and 88mm
Compressor trim and A/R: 51 trim, 0.80 A/R
Turbine inducer and exducer: 77mm and 70mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm

What’s Included

G40-1000 G-Series II super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The G40-1000 G-Series II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 6.0L
Power range: 500 to 1000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G40 turbine kits: Free float in 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, with V-band or divided T4 inlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G40 turbine housing kits for this core
Every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
A calibration is required to turn the extra compressor flow into more power

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
