Which G55 inducer size is right for my engine?

Start from the power target. Garrett names each G55 by its rating, from 1850 to 2900 horsepower, and all seven share the turbine. The G55-2450 Super Core suits engines aiming in the low to mid 2000s, and a lower target is better served by a smaller inducer that suits lower airflow.

How much horsepower is the G55-2450 Super Core rated to support?

Up to 2450 horsepower, with a range of 1000 to 2450 on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. Garrett calculates the figure from compressor choke flow, so it is potential flywheel horsepower. Fuel, boost, intercooling, turbine housing size and the calibration decide how much a specific engine makes.

Is the G55-2450 the biggest G55 with an 84,000 rpm limit?

Yes. Garrett lists 84,000 rpm for the 85mm through 98mm G55 cores and 74,500 rpm for the 102mm and 106mm cores, which also move to a 144mm exducer in the Garrett reference table. Running above the limit is at the risk of the owner and can cause premature failure.

Can I reuse a G55 turbine housing from a smaller core?

Yes. Garrett lists the same six G55 turbine kits for every G55 super core, so a housing from a G55-1850 or G55-2100 fits this one. The kits are 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet, and 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet.

What else does a G55-2450 installation need?

A G55 turbine kit, an external wastegate, an oil feed with a restrictor and a drain, and a calibration. Garrett recommends 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed and a speed sensor in the compressor housing. No coolant lines are needed, since the center housing is air cooled.

Description

Garrett G55-2450 Super Core, 98mm Inducer 0.96 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-2450 Super Core is the largest G55 built on the 133mm compressor exducer, with a 98mm inducer in a 0.96 A/R housing and the shared 112mm G-Series turbine. Garrett rates it at 1000 to 2450 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines and keeps it at the 84,000 rpm limit of the smaller G55 cores. It is the last stop before the 102mm and 106mm wheels and their lower speed limit, which makes it a sensible ceiling for an engine aimed near 2400 horsepower.

Choosing a G55 Inducer

Garrett offers G55 compressor stages in 85, 88, 91, 94, 98, 102 and 106mm inducer sizes, each rated by the number in its name, all sharing the 112mm turbine and the same six turbine kits. The one-piece aluminum center housing is air cooled and runs on a 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge with steel cages.

Features

98mm by 133mm compressor wheel in a 0.96 A/R housing
G-Series turbine wheel with up to 15 percent more flow than GTX
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 98mm and 133mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The G55-2450 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2450 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
