Is the G55-2900 Super Core the biggest G55?

Yes. Its 106mm inducer is the largest of the seven G55 compressor sizes, and Garrett rates it at up to 2900 horsepower. The G55-2900 Super Core still uses the 112mm G55 turbine, so engines with enough exhaust flow for a 118mm wheel may be better served by the G57-3000.

What does the 2900 rating mean in practice?

Garrett rates the core at 1000 to 2900 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines, calculated from the choke flow of the compressor map as potential flywheel horsepower. Reaching the top of that range takes a fuel system, boost, intercooling, calibration and turbine housing that all match the target.

How fast can the G55-2900 spin?

Garrett publishes a maximum allowable speed of 74,500 rpm, shared with the 102mm G55-2650. Running past it is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure. A compressor housing speed sensor is the practical safeguard while boost is being raised.

Which turbine kit pairs with the G55-2900?

Any of the six Garrett G55 kits. On a core this large the 1.24 and 1.40 A/R sizes, offered with either a T6 or a V-band inlet, suit the big engines it is meant for, while the 1.00 and 1.12 A/R T6 kits favor earlier boost. All of them need an external wastegate.

Does it include water fittings?

No, and none are needed. Garrett states the G55 center housing is air cooled, so the installation calls only for an oil feed and drain. Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN feed line and a restrictor, with 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed.

Description

Garrett G55-2900 Super Core, 106mm Inducer 0.96 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-2900 Super Core is the largest compressor Garrett fits to the G55, a 106mm inducer with a 144mm exducer listed in Garrett’s reference table, in a 0.96 A/R housing over the 112mm G-Series turbine. Rated at 1000 to 2900 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines, it is the G55 for an all-out build where compressor capacity is the limit. With a 74,500 rpm cap and a turbine smaller than the G57, it is a poor match for anything short of a very large, very high-boost engine.

Construction

The single-piece aluminum center housing is air cooled and keeps the oil inlet and outlet specifications of earlier GTX designs, with a 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge and steel cages. Garrett states the G-Series turbine aerodynamics flow up to 15 percent more than GTX.

Features

106mm compressor inducer, the largest in the G55 range
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
Takes the same six G55 turbine kits as every other G55 core

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 106mm and 144mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 74,500 rpm

Applications

The G55-2900 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2900 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 74,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
