Does the G55-1850 Super Core include a turbine housing?

No. The G55-1850 Super Core ships without one, and Garrett sells the stainless steel G55 turbine kits individually. There are six: 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet, and 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet. All have a V-band outlet and a free-float layout for an external wastegate.

How much horsepower does the G55-1850 support?

Garrett lists support for up to 1850 horsepower, with a range of 1000 to 1850 on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. The figure is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, and the engine, fuel, boost and calibration decide the actual output.

Who should choose the 85mm G55 over a larger inducer?

A builder with a large engine whose power target sits nearer 1500 than 2500 horsepower. Every G55 shares the same 112mm turbine and turbine kits, so the inducer sets compressor capacity. The 85mm wheel matches a lower airflow target, and a larger G55 core can later go into the same turbine housing.

Is the G55-1850 Super Core outline compatible with GTX Gen II turbochargers?

Yes. Garrett states the G55 is outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers and keeps the oil inlet and outlet specifications of earlier GTX designs. Check the turbine housing and wastegate layout, since the G55 uses its own stainless steel turbine kits.

What is the maximum speed of the G55-1850?

Garrett lists 84,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed. Above that, use is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure, so Garrett suggests a speed sensor installed in the compressor housing. The sensor kit is sold separately.

Description

Garrett G55-1850 Super Core, 85mm Inducer 0.88 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-1850 Super Core is the smallest compressor in the G55 large frame, an 85mm inducer and 133mm exducer in a 0.88 A/R compressor housing, on a 112mm G-Series turbine wheel. Garrett rates it at 1000 to 1850 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. Choosing the smallest of seven G55 inducers on the big G55 turbine makes sense for a large engine that needs exhaust flow more than extra compressor; an engine chasing 1500 horsepower from smaller displacement will usually respond better on a G47 or G50.

Center Housing and Bearings

The one-piece aluminum center housing reduces super core weight and is air cooled, so there are no water connections to plumb. It carries a 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge with steel cages and keeps the oil inlet and outlet specifications of earlier GTX designs. Garrett credits the G-Series turbine wheel with up to 15 percent more flow than GTX.

Features

Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
Smallest of the seven G55 compressor inducer sizes, which run from 85mm to 106mm
Stainless steel G55 turbine kits offered with a T6 or V-band inlet

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 85mm and 133mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The G55-1850 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 1850 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
