Does the G55-1950 Super Core need water lines?

No. Garrett states the G55 center housing is air cooled, so only the oil feed and drain need plumbing. The G55-1950 Super Core keeps the oil inlet and outlet specifications of earlier GTX designs, and Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN feed with 40 to 45 psi at maximum engine speed.

How much power is the G55-1950 rated to make?

Garrett gives a range of 1000 to 1950 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. Like every Garrett rating, it is calculated from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so it describes the capacity of the compressor rather than a guaranteed result.

What is the difference between the G55-1850 and G55-1950?

Only the compressor inducer, which is 88mm here against 85mm on the G55-1850. Both use a 133mm exducer, a 0.88 A/R compressor housing, the same 112mm turbine and the same turbine kits. The larger inducer lifts the rating by 100 horsepower to 1950.

Which G55 turbine housing should I use?

Garrett offers T6 inlet kits in 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R and V-band inlet kits in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. Match the inlet to the manifold flange first, then pick the A/R: smaller for earlier boost, larger for top-end flow on big displacement. All need an external wastegate.

What is the G55-1950 speed limit?

Garrett publishes 84,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed for this core. Exceeding it is at the risk of the owner and may cause damage or premature failure. A speed sensor in the compressor housing lets the tuner log shaft speed, and the Garrett sensor kit is sold separately.

Description

Garrett G55-1950 Super Core, 88mm Inducer 0.88 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-1950 Super Core steps the G55 compressor inducer up to 88mm with a 133mm exducer in a 0.88 A/R housing, and keeps the 112mm by 106mm G-Series turbine common to every G55. Garrett rates it at 1000 to 1950 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. It fits a large V8 build aimed between roughly 1500 and 1900 horsepower; an engine that will stay below 1000 horsepower falls under its rating and belongs on a smaller frame.

Center Housing and Oil Supply

The air-cooled center housing is a single aluminum piece that Garrett says reduces super core weight, and it uses the same oil inlet and outlet specifications as earlier GTX designs. Inside is a 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge with steel cages. Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed and 40 to 45 psi at maximum engine speed.

Features

88mm by 133mm compressor wheel, one step above the entry G55-1850
G-Series turbine wheel with up to 15 percent more flow than GTX, per Garrett
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 88mm and 133mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The G55-1950 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 1950 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
