Do I need the reverse G35-990 G-Series II CHRA for my twin turbo build?

Only if the turbochargers are mounted as mirror images. In that layout one bank runs a standard rotation unit and the other runs the reverse G35-990 G-Series II CHRA, which keeps the intake and exhaust plumbing symmetrical. If both turbochargers face the same way, two standard cores are correct.

What turbine housings are offered in reverse rotation?

Garrett lists six reverse-rotation G35 turbine kits: 0.61, 0.83, 1.01 and 1.21 A/R with V-band inlets and 0.83 and 1.01 A/R with T3 inlets. All are external wastegate designs, so a reverse G35 setup needs an external wastegate for each turbocharger or a shared arrangement.

What is the power rating per turbocharger?

Garrett rates the G35-990 at 550 to 990 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L, calculated from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. Each unit in a pair carries that rating, but a twin-turbo engine splits its airflow between two compressors, and the fuel system and calibration set the real ceiling.

Can I reuse reverse housings from a first generation G35?

Yes. Garrett states that G-Series II uses the Gen I compressor and turbine housings, and it builds reverse-rotation G-Series II supercores, CHRAs and turbochargers. Fit this core into the existing reverse housings, then retune, since Garrett states a calibration is needed to use the extra flow.

How do I protect two turbochargers from overspeed?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed for the G35-990 at 140,000 rpm. Fitting a speed sensor to each compressor housing, sold separately, lets the tuner confirm both turbochargers stay under that limit and are sharing the load evenly, which is harder to judge on a twin setup without data.

Description

Garrett G35-990 G-Series II CHRA, Reverse Rotation

Garrett’s G35-990 G-Series II CHRA in reverse rotation is the counter-rotating G35 center section for twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines that run a mirrored pair. With a 62mm compressor and 68mm turbine on each side and a Garrett rating of 550 to 990 horsepower per turbocharger, a pair is aimed at serious twin-turbo builds, well past what most street engines can use. It is supplied without housings and takes only reverse-rotation G35 compressor and turbine housings. A single-turbo engine needs the standard-rotation G35-990 G-Series II CHRA.

Mirrored Twin Layout

On a twin-turbo engine the reverse core sits on one bank and the standard G35-990 on the other, so the compressor outlets and turbine inlets mirror each other and the plumbing can match side to side. G-Series II brings up to 10 percent more compressor flow than Gen I at peak pressure ratio, the one-piece center housing and backplate, and twin piston rings on both sides of the shaft.

Features

Reverse rotation, the partner to the standard G35-990 on twin-turbo engines
Mar-M alloy turbine wheel rated to 1050C (1922F)
Accepts Gen I reverse-rotation G35 compressor and turbine housings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 62mm and 76mm
Compressor trim: 65
Turbine inducer and exducer: 68mm and 62mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 140,000 rpm
Rotation: Reverse
Matching super core: 934126-5001S

Applications

The G35-990 G-Series II CHRA is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 550 to 990 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G35 turbine kits, reverse rotation: 0.61, 0.83, 1.01 and 1.21 A/R V-band and 0.83 and 1.01 A/R T3, all external wastegate

Notes

Housings are not included and must be reverse rotation; the reverse rotation G35-990 super core includes the compressor housing
Garrett lists only external wastegate turbine kits for reverse-rotation G35 builds
Garrett states that running above 140,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
