Does the Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 858893-6003 come with end tanks?

No. This Air-to-Air Intercooler Core is sold as a core for fabrication. Garrett designs the thicker side plates to protect the fins and to give a surface for welding on end tanks, so the builder adds tanks, inlet and outlet to suit the engine bay and charge pipe routing.

How much power will a 1275 horsepower core support?

Garrett rates this core at 1275 horsepower for normal operating conditions and states that maximum potential can be higher depending on setup and calibration. It is the top of the Garrett air-to-air range, so it is aimed at builds well past 1000 horsepower rather than mild street engines.

How do I read the 14.0 x 22.1 x 4.5 dimensions?

Garrett lists hot flow length first, the 14.0 inches the charge air travels through the core. The 22.1 inch figure is the no flow height, the external height of the core, and the 4.5 inch figure is the cold flow width, the thickness the cooling air passes through.

Is this core too big for a 600 horsepower build?

For many builds, yes. Garrett advises using the largest core that fits the packaging, but a 1275 horsepower core needs a tall opening and large end tanks. If the space is limited, a smaller Garrett core rated nearer the power target is easier to fit and plumb without giving up cooling.

Why choose a tall core over a wide one?

Packaging. This core puts its area into a 22.1 inch height with only 14.0 inches of hot flow length, which fits an opening that is taller than it is wide. The Garrett 701596-6001, rated 1260 horsepower, does the opposite with a 27.8 inch hot flow length and 12.7 inch height.

Description

Garrett Air-to-Air Intercooler Core, 14.0 x 22.1 x 4.5 in, 1275 HP

Garrett’s Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 858893-6003 is the highest-rated core in Garrett’s current air-to-air range, at 1275 supported horsepower, built as a horizontal-flow bar-and-plate core measuring 14.0 in of hot flow length, 22.1 in of height and 4.5 in of thickness. The charge air crosses only 14 in of core, but across a tall 22.1 in face, which suits a fabricated intercooler where vertical space is easier to find than width. It is meant for builds well past 1000 horsepower; for a 500 horsepower street car it is more core than the job needs, and a smaller size from the same range is easier to package and plumb.

Construction

Garrett builds its cores as bar and plate, with plates top and bottom, fins between them and bars closing each passage. Charge air and cooling air cross in a perpendicular cross-flow pattern, and a thicker side plate gives the core structural integrity, protects the fins and provides a surface for welding on end tanks.

Features

Horizontal-flow bar-and-plate construction
Short 14.0 in hot flow length across a tall 22.1 in face
The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core has thicker side plates that protect the fins and accept welded end tanks

Specifications

Garrett part number: 858893-6003
Flow: Horizontal
Length, hot flow: 14.0 in (356 mm)
Height, no flow: 22.1 in (561 mm)
Width, cold flow: 4.5 in (114 mm)
Supported power: 1275 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Applications

The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by power and packaging:

Supported power: 1275 horsepower (normal operating conditions)
Core face: 14.0 in wide by 22.1 in tall, 4.5 in thick
Typical use: Custom air-to-air intercooler fabrication

Notes

Supplied as a core; Garrett describes the side plates as a surface for welding on end tanks, which are not part of this listing
Garrett rates horsepower for normal operating conditions and states that maximum potential can be higher depending on setup and calibration
Hot flow length is the distance charge air travels through the core; no flow height and cold flow width are its external height and thickness
Garrett offers other core sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
