What is the Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 858893-6001 best suited to?

Narrow spaces. This Air-to-Air Intercooler Core has a 9.0 inch hot flow length and a 22.1 inch height, so it fits a tall, slim opening where a wide front-mount core cannot go. Garrett rates it at 750 horsepower, which covers most street and strip builds with a single turbocharger.

Does the core include end tanks or fittings?

No. It is sold as a bar-and-plate core. Garrett describes the thicker side plates as a surface for welding on end tanks, so the fabricator builds the tanks, inlet and outlet to match the charge pipe sizes and the space available in the vehicle.

Can a 9 inch wide core really support 750 horsepower?

Garrett rates it at 750 horsepower for normal operating conditions, and states that maximum potential can be higher depending on setup and calibration. The capacity comes from the 22.1 inch height and 4.0 inch thickness, which give the core its frontal area and depth despite the short charge air path.

How does it compare with the 858893-6003?

Both share the 22.1 inch height. The 858893-6003 is longer at 14.0 inches of hot flow and thicker at 4.5 inches, and Garrett rates it at 1275 horsepower. This 858893-6001 is the slimmer choice when width is the constraint and the power target sits at or below 750 horsepower.

Which dimension is the charge air path?

The hot flow length, 9.0 inches on this core, is the distance the charge air travels through it. Garrett defines the no flow height, here 22.1 inches, as the external height, and the cold flow width, here 4.0 inches, as the external thickness the cooling air passes through.

Description

Garrett Air-to-Air Intercooler Core, 9.0 x 22.1 x 4.0 in, 750 HP

Garrett’s Air-to-Air Intercooler Core 858893-6001 is a narrow, tall bar-and-plate core rated at 750 supported horsepower, with only 9.0 in of hot flow length, 22.1 in of height and 4.0 in of thickness. That narrow footprint is its reason to exist: it fits openings where a conventional wide front-mount core will not, such as a vertical space beside a radiator or in a tight engine bay. For a builder targeting 600 to 750 horsepower with limited width it is a sensible pick; for a car with a full-width bumper opening, a wider Garrett core will give more capacity for the same effort.

Construction

Like the rest of Garrett’s air-to-air range, this is a horizontal-flow bar-and-plate core. Each passage is built from plates top and bottom with fins between and bars on either side, and the charge air and cooling air cross at right angles. Thicker side plates add structural integrity and give a welding surface for the end tanks.

Features

Horizontal-flow bar-and-plate construction
Narrow 9.0 in hot flow length for tight packaging
The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core shares its 22.1 in height with the 1275 horsepower 858893-6003

Specifications

Garrett part number: 858893-6001
Flow: Horizontal
Length, hot flow: 9.0 in (229 mm)
Height, no flow: 22.1 in (561 mm)
Width, cold flow: 4.0 in (102 mm)
Supported power: 750 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Applications

The Air-to-Air Intercooler Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by power and packaging:

Supported power: 750 horsepower (normal operating conditions)
Core face: 9.0 in wide by 22.1 in tall, 4.0 in thick
Typical use: Custom intercooler fabrication in narrow openings

Notes

Supplied as a core; Garrett describes the side plates as a surface for welding on end tanks, which are not part of this listing
Garrett rates horsepower for normal operating conditions and states that maximum potential can be higher depending on setup and calibration
Hot flow length is the distance charge air travels through the core; no flow height and cold flow width are its external height and thickness
Garrett offers other core sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
