Are the Brake Pads for FK8 suitable for street driving?

Yes. Spoon aimed the compound at circuit use, yet its listed rotor temperature window starts at 50 degrees C, so it bites from the first stop on a cold road. Go Tuning describes the revised Brake Pads for FK8 as quiet and low in dust, which suits a car that is driven on public roads between track days.

Do these pads fit the factory Brembo calipers?

Yes. Spoon lists the front set for the factory front calipers, and Go Tuning notes that the FK8 left the factory with Brembo four-piston front calipers on 350 mm rotors and a 305 mm rear rotor. No caliper change is involved, and the rear set is registered for exactly the same cars as the front.

How do they compare with the factory pads?

The factory pads were not designed for continuous sport driving, and Spoon found their braking force fell away over repeated laps. The Spoon semi-metal compound is made to stay consistent as heat rises, and its release is tuned for fine control so that braking into a corner can help point the nose toward the apex.

Do I need to order front and rear separately?

Yes. Each option is a single axle set, so Front covers both front wheels and Rear covers both rear wheels. Running the same Spoon compound at each end keeps brake balance predictable, which matters on track when the stability systems are working hard. Replacing only the front set is possible but shifts that balance.

Are the pads registered for the BF1 Prelude?

Yes. Spoon registers both the front and the rear set for the BF1 Prelude e:HEV with its CVT, alongside the FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R. On a Prelude used mainly on the road, the low noise and the wide temperature window are likely to be the qualities an owner notices first.

Description

Spoon Sports Brake Pads for FK8 / FL5 Honda Civic Type R and BF1 Prelude

The Spoon Sports Brake Pads for FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R are the revised Spoon semi-metal compound for the factory calipers, sold as a front or rear axle set and also registered for the new BF1 Prelude. Spoon built them around a weakness it found on circuit: the factory pads were never meant for continuous sport driving, and their bite drops away as heat accumulates over consecutive laps. The new compound holds braking force at high temperature, and Spoon chose friction characteristics that favour control over a sharp first grab, so a skilled driver can trail the brake to rotate the car toward the apex. A listed rotor window of 50 to 750 degrees C means one set covers a cold commute and a hot track session. On a car that never sees a circuit, the factory pads remain adequate.

Features

Semi-metal compound that holds braking force at high temperature
Rotor temperature range of 50 to 750 degrees C
Friction tuned for modulation rather than initial bite
Compound chosen with the FK8 stability control and adaptive dampers in mind
Low noise and light dust, per Go Tuning
Made in Japan

Applications

Honda Civic Type R: FK8 | 2017-2021 | 2.0L K20C1 turbo
Honda Civic Type R: FL5 | 2023-present | 2.0L K20C1 turbo
Honda Prelude: BF1 | 2025-present | 2.0L LFC hybrid

Notes

Front is one front axle set and Rear is one rear axle set; a full car needs both options
Spoon lists the front set for the factory front calipers
The Brake Pads for FK8 and FL5 are the revised compound, which Go Tuning rates for street and light track use
Spoon registers both the standard FL5 and the FL5 RBP variant

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
