Can the Venturi Throttle Body for FD2 be fitted to an FN2?

It can, with work. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, warns that the venturi throttle body for FD2 leaves a 2 mm step against the FN2 intake manifold and recommends machining the manifold to match. Without that, the step would disturb the airflow the throttle was designed to smooth.

What figures change compared with the factory part?

The bore increases from 67 mm to 70 mm and the butterfly from 64 mm to 66 mm. The shape of the passage also changes to a venturi profile, and the inside is finished to a mirror surface. Spoon publishes no power figure, so BA does not quote one.

Does the car need remapping afterwards?

The Go Tuning description for the FD2 part mentions no calibration requirement. An FD2 that already runs a custom map is best checked by its tuner after fitting, because idle and part-throttle airflow can shift slightly with a larger bore. A stock car should simply be road-tested for a smooth idle.

Who benefits most from this part?

An FD2 owner who has already opened up the intake and exhaust, or who is building the K20A further, will feel the most from it. These engines live near the limiter on track, where the throttle becomes a meaningful restriction. On a stock road car the change is more refinement than transformation.

Is the part made by Spoon or modified?

Go Tuning describes a throttle body Spoon developed after reviewing and testing the conventional design, with its own venturi bore, mirror finish and larger angled butterfly. Its durability is engineered to match the factory part. Spoon Japan does not currently publish a separate record for the FD2 version, which BA notes for transparency.

Description

Spoon Sports Venturi Throttle Body for FD2 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Venturi Throttle Body for FD2 Honda Civic Type R is the Spoon Venturi Big Throttle Body machined for the sedan’s naturally aspirated 2.0-litre K20A, an engine that makes its power high in the rev range and rewards anything that eases airflow. Spoon has tuned this engine family for years, and the throttle reflects that experience: the bore is opened to 70 mm from 67 mm, the butterfly grows to 66 mm from 64 mm, and the passage follows a venturi shape that speeds the air as it enters the intake manifold. The internal walls are diamond-cut to a mirror finish, and the butterfly is an angled oval for a reliable seal. For an FD2 with a freer intake and exhaust, it is the logical next step; on an untouched car the throttle is not yet the main restriction.

Features

Bore opened to 70 mm for the K20A
66 mm butterfly with an angled oval profile

Notes

Go Tuning notes that this FD2 throttle body can be used on the FN2 Civic Type R, but it leaves a 2 mm step at the intake manifold, so machining the manifold is recommended
The FN2 is not part of the registered fitment for the Venturi Throttle Body for FD2

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
