How much weight does the Carbon Bonnet for EG6 save?

Spoon quotes 8.2 kg for its EG and EK carbon bonnet against 15.5 kg for the factory part, a saving of 7.3 kg, or roughly half. With the Carbon Bonnet for EG6 that weight comes off the nose of the car, and Spoon likens it to the saving from leaving out the air conditioning.

Will I have to fit bonnet pins?

No. The carbon bonnet locks with the same latch Honda used on the original, so pins are not needed to keep it shut, and the window washers carry on working as before. Organizers of some timed events require extra hood restraints on all cars, so read the competition rules separately.

Will it change how the car handles?

Yes. Spoon says the lighter front end reduces understeer, sharpens turn-in, eases the load on the brakes and helps acceleration, all traits it calls essential for sport driving. The effect is most noticeable on a tight circuit or a hillclimb, where the EG6 is changing direction and braking hard every few seconds.

Should I clear coat the carbon?

Yes. Spoon warns that carbon can change color under ultraviolet light and recommends a UV clear coat. A trial fit should come first. The finish then needs to air dry, kept below 40 degrees Celsius in cold or humid weather, because heaters and spot heating can make the bonnet deform.

Who is this bonnet best suited to?

It suits an EG6 being prepared for track days, hillclimbs or time attack, where 7.3 kg less over the front wheels pays off on every corner entry. On a car used mostly on the street the handling gain is still real, but smaller, and keeping the clear coat in good order becomes part of ownership.

Description

Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for EG6 Honda Civic

The Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for EG6 Honda Civic cuts the bonnet of the B16A hatchback from 15.5 kg to 8.2 kg, by Spoon figures, and those 7.3 kg come off the part of the car that can least afford to carry them. Spoon equates the saving to building the car without air conditioning. On a front-heavy, front-drive Civic the gain appears in several places at once: less understeer, quicker turn-in, less work for the front brakes and a small lift in acceleration. Spoon has raced Civics since its first season, and this bonnet applies the same thinking to the road car by taking weight from where it hurts handling most. It keeps the factory shape, closes on the original latch without pins and leaves the washers working, so the only visible change is the black weave. It suits an EG6 being built for circuit or hillclimb use.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
