Is the black intercooler for 2015-2017 WRX flex fuel package legal in California?

No. COBB states this kit is not legal for sale or use in California on any emission controlled motor vehicle. Testing with CARB is listed as pending, and COBB says the status will change once an Executive Order is issued. Elsewhere it is covered by SEMA Garage Emissions Certification SC-COB01-0106.

Does the package need a separate tune?

No. The Accessport V3 in the box loads COBB Off The Shelf maps, including flex fuel maps written for the SF intake, so a stock WRX can run the parts without buying a custom tune. Owners who add other hardware can still have a COBB Protuner write a custom calibration and flash it through the same handheld.

Will this kit fit a 2018 WRX?

No. The CAN Flex Fuel Upgrade included with the black intercooler for 2015-2017 cars uses a vehicle specific harness that COBB says is not compatible with 2018-2021 WRX models. Owners of later cars should order the 2018-2021 version of this package, which ships with the matching gateway harness and sensor wiring.

Can I order this package for a CVT WRX?

No. COBB confirms this flex fuel package only for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 USDM WRX sedan with the six-speed manual gearbox. The CVT car and the WRX STI are not on the application list, so neither should be ordered against this part number.

What does the CAN Gateway actually do?

It is the bridge between the aftermarket ethanol sensor and the engine computer. The gateway takes the live ethanol reading and places it on the factory CAN bus, so the ECU can blend fuelling and timing inside an Accessport flex fuel map as the ethanol percentage changes.

Description

COBB Tuning NexGen Stage 2 Flex Fuel Package with Black Intercooler for 2015-2017 VA Subaru WRX 6MT with SF Intake

COBB Tuning’s NexGen Stage 2 flex fuel package with the black intercooler for 2015-2017 WRX sedans with the six-speed manual puts eight COBB parts in one box, headlined by a CAN Gateway ethanol kit for Accessport flex fuel maps. The Garrett core top mount, finished in black, carries a core of 15.75 x 9.65 x 3.94 in, which COBB calls the largest available for the direct injection WRX. It makes sense for an owner with reliable E85 nearby; if you never plan to fill with ethanol blends, a non flex NexGen package does the same intake and intercooler work for less.

Features

Accessport V3 with a full color screen showing up to six live parameters
CAN Gateway built from billet aluminum around a precision PCB, mounted on a machined bracket
Ethanol sensor with bracket, quick connect fuel lines and a harness that plugs into the gateway
Garrett core with cast aluminum end tanks; COBB quotes a 31% airflow gain over the stock intercooler
Black powder coated aluminum SF airbox with a pre-oiled cone filter and velocity stack MAF housing
Wrinkle black powder coated aluminum Thrust Tunnel that feeds air from the factory hood duct

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
