Is the 2.7L Black Factory Intercooler package legal in California?

Yes. COBB lists this package under California Air Resources Board Executive Orders D-660-62 and D-660-245, so the Accessport and the 2.7L Black Factory Intercooler are legal for sale and use on emissions controlled vehicles in all 50 states when installed according to the COBB application guide.

Does installation require cutting the grille?

No. The intercooler occupies the factory mounting location and seals against the OEM shutter shroud, so COBB requires no cutting, trimming or permanent modification. That is the main practical difference from the COBB front mount package for this truck, whose larger core needs minor trimming on the back side of the grille.

What is left out because this is a No Intake package?

The COBB intake system is left out. The truck keeps its factory airbox, filter and tubing, and the box contains the Accessport V3, the black intercooler, a COBB vehicle badge and the CARB sticker. The No Intake label separates it from the COBB Stage 2 package that also supplies an intake.

Why upgrade the intercooler on a 2.7L EcoBoost?

COBB describes the stock intercooler on the 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost F-150 as undersized and quick to heat soak, which reduces available power. A larger core with more cooling surface holds charge temperatures down for longer, and that matters most when towing, climbing long grades or making repeated pulls in hot weather.

Does the package fit a 2021 or newer F-150 2.7L?

No, not as a package. The bundled Accessport is the AP3-FOR-008, which COBB confirms only for the USDM 2018, 2019 and 2020 F-150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost. The intercooler on its own is listed for some later 2.7L trucks, but this package as sold is limited to P552 models.

Description

COBB Tuning 2.7L Black Factory Intercooler Stage 2 Kit for P552 Ford F-150

COBB Tuning’s 2.7L Black Factory Intercooler Stage 2 Kit teams the AP3-FOR-008 Accessport V3 with the 7F1527-BK cast aluminum intercooler, which bolts into the original location on a 2018-2020 F-150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost. CARB EO D-660-62 and D-660-245 cover it for street use in every state. COBB calls the stock intercooler undersized and quick to heat soak, and states this core has 70 percent more volume and 10 percent more cooling surface. No intake is supplied, so the factory airbox stays. Buyers wanting the largest core should look at the front mount kit.

Intercooler Design

COBB designed the 2.7L Black Factory Intercooler in house, using computational fluid dynamics to shape end tanks that spread charge air evenly. A large chamfer on the outlet port eases air into the throttle body tube. The TIG welded casting mates snugly to the OEM shutter shroud, so ambient air still funnels through the fins as it does from the factory, and two flat sections can be drilled and tapped for a water or methanol injection nozzle and a drain.

Features

Black cast aluminum intercooler, TIG welded, for the factory location
Core volume about 70 percent larger and cooling surface 10 percent larger than stock
No cutting, trimming or permanent modification required
Accessport V3 with an in-vehicle mount, six-parameter live display and interchangeable faceplates

50-state legal with CARB EO D-660-62 and D-660-245 when installed per the COBB application guide

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
