Do the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F90 need a tune?

No. Active Autowerke sells the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F90 BMW M5, F9X M8 and F95 / F96 X5 M / X6 M as needing no performance tune, and its catalyst efficiency guarantee applies on factory software. Most S63 owners add a tune eventually to use the extra flow, and the 800 horsepower rating leaves room for it.

Will catted downpipes set a check engine light on an F90 M5?

Active Autowerke guarantees that the AFlow converters will not set a catalyst efficiency fault during the first two years of ownership, with full replacement if they do. The 400 cell substrate lights off within 9 seconds of a cold start, which keeps the downstream oxygen sensors within their expected range.

Do I also need a mid-pipe with these downpipes?

No. Active Autowerke builds these downpipes to include the lower section that other suppliers sell as a separate mid-pipe, so they connect to the factory exhaust on their own. That makes the set a complete replacement for the restrictive pipework directly behind the S63 turbos.

Can the factory oxygen sensor heat shield stay on?

Yes. The downpipes were designed to accept the original oxygen sensor heat shield, which transfers across during installation. With it in place, the engine bay of the M5, M8, X5 M or X6 M looks stock, which suits owners who prefer the modification to stay discreet.

Should I pick AFlow or GESI converters for an S63?

AFlow suits a stock or moderately tuned S63, with converters rated up to 800 horsepower and a two-year replacement guarantee at the lower price. The GESI version uses converters rated from 500 to 850 horsepower, which makes sense only on an engine built beyond what the AFlow rating covers.

Description

Active Autowerke AFlow Catted Downpipes for F90 BMW M5, F9X M8 and F95 / F96 X5 M / X6 M

Active Autowerke’s AFlow Catted Downpipes for F90 BMW M5, F9X M8 and F95 / F96 X5 M / X6 M replace the restrictive factory downpipes on BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4 liter S63 V8 with longer stainless units that run all the way through the section other makers sell separately as a mid-pipe. Each side starts at a factory-matched 3.5 inch V-band inlet and carries a 4.5 inch Active AFlow converter. Active Autowerke rates those converters for engines making up to 800 horsepower, which covers every one of these vehicles in factory form with room for a tune, and backs them with a two-year guarantee against catalyst efficiency codes. Owners chasing more than that should look at the GESI Catted Downpipes.

Design and Performance

Because these downpipes include the lower pipe section, one purchase covers the length of exhaust that limits flow behind the S63 turbos, and lower back pressure shortens turbo lag. They also accept the original oxygen sensor heat shield, so with it refitted the engine bay looks untouched.

Features

Pair of 4.5 inch Active AFlow high flow catalytic converters with 400 cpsi substrate
EPA registered and OBD2 compliant converters
Two-year guarantee against catalyst efficiency check engine lights, with full replacement
Factory-matched 3.5 inch V-band turbo inlets tapering to a mandrel bent body
304 stainless substrate furnace brazed to the mantle, rated to 1500F
Converters reach working efficiency within 9 seconds of startup
TIG welded 304 stainless steel, made in Miami, Florida
Bolt-on installation with no cutting or welding

Applications

BMW M5: F90 | 2018-2024 | 4.4L S63
BMW M8: F91 / F92 / F93 | 2020-2025 | 4.4L S63
BMW X5 M: F95 | 2020-present | 4.4L S63
BMW X6 M: F96 | 2020-present | 4.4L S63

Notes

The AFlow Catted Downpipes for F90 include the lower pipe section, so no separate mid-pipe is needed between the downpipes and the factory exhaust
Shells and tube ends are warranted for 5 years or 50,000 miles and the catalytic cores for 2 years or 25,000 miles, original purchaser only. A tune producing more burble than stock voids the warranty, because it physically destroys the core.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
