Do the Endless Brake Pads for 986 Boxsters also fit the 987?

Yes. Both generations of the base Boxster take the same shapes on the Endless list, EIP142 at the front and EIP073 at the rear, so a 2.5-liter car from the late 1990s and a 2.9-liter car from 2012 order identical sets. The exception is the Boxster S, which Endless lists with a different front pad.

Will these pads fit a Boxster S?

No. Endless lists EIP072 at the front of the 986 and 987 Boxster S in place of the EIP142 on this listing, although both models share the EIP073 rear shape. Bulletproof Automotive sells the Boxster S pads on their own listing. If you are unsure which model you have, the badge and the engine size, 3.2 or 3.4 liters on the S, settle it.

Which Endless compound suits a Boxster at track days?

A mid-engined Boxster on street tires does well on MX72 Plus at occasional track days; Endless rates it to 750C, or 1382F, and says it holds its braking force to higher temperatures than MX72. For monthly circuit use, CC-Rg extends that to 800C, or 1472F, with strong bite from cold, at the cost of noise on the road.

Do Endless pads make a Boxster dusty?

No. SSM Plus, the road compound on this listing, is rated by Endless for low dust and low noise, and its braking builds with pedal pressure rather than biting sharply, which suits a Boxster used for road trips. MX72 and MX72 Plus also keep dust and noise to a minimum. CC-Rg and the racing compounds are not designed with clean wheels in mind.

Is the Front and Rear Set cheaper than buying each axle?

No. Endless has no combo price for EIP142 and EIP073, so the Front and Rear Set of Brake Pads for 986 and 987 cars costs the same as one front set and one rear set in the same compound. Choosing it puts matching friction at both ends in one order, which is the setup we suggest for a road-driven Boxster.

Endless Brake Pads for 986 / 987 Porsche Boxster

Endless’s Brake Pads for 986 / 987 Porsche Boxster fit the base roadster from its 1996 launch to the end of the 987 in 2012, through the 2.5, 2.7 and 2.9-liter engines, because Endless lists one front shape, EIP142, and one rear shape, EIP073, for both generations. Endless’s own note on EIP142 names the 986 and the 987, and EIP073 is the rear shape it also lists for the Boxster S and the 996 Carrera. For a Boxster kept for weekend drives, SSM Plus keeps the wheels clean; for track days on street tires, MX72 Plus is our pick.

Features

Endless pad shapes EIP142 front and EIP073 rear for every base Boxster from 1996 to 2012
Four street and street-to-track compounds: SSM Plus, MX72, MX72 Plus and CC-Rg
Eighteen racing compounds across the Racing Group, W003, S330 and MA45B options
Every compound sold as a front set, a rear set or a front and rear set

Choosing a Compound

For a 986 or 987 Boxster used on the road, SSM Plus is the compound to fit, with low dust, low noise and long life; Endless does not make SSS in these shapes. MX72 suits spirited driving, and MX72 Plus suits a Boxster that runs on street tires at track days. CC-Rg is for a car that lives on the circuit, and the racing compounds are for a prepared race car. W007 and W008, which Endless prices for these shapes, are left off because Endless designs both for carbon ceramic rotors, and this listing is for the iron brakes.

Every figure below is Endless’s own. Friction is the compound’s average friction coefficient, so a higher number gives more bite for the same pedal pressure. The rotor range is the band of rotor temperatures Endless designs the compound to work in, so choose by the temperatures your car will see.

Street and street-to-track compounds

SSM Plus (street): non-asbestos; friction 0.33-0.40; rotor range 0-550C (32-1022F). Low dust, low noise and long life. Braking builds with pedal pressure rather than a sharp first bite, for drivers who want clean wheels and a quiet car.
MX72 (street to light track): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.37-0.47; rotor range 50-700C (122-1292F). Minimal noise and dust, strong friction at low temperatures, reduced rotor wear and a better pedal feel than a typical semi-metallic pad. Endless’s dual-duty compound for a road car that sees the occasional track day.
MX72 Plus (street to circuit): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.39-0.47; rotor range 50-750C (122-1382F). Holds its braking force to higher temperatures than MX72, with stable control and a consistent pedal release. Endless aims it at cars on street tires that run on track.
CC-Rg (track day, street capable): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.38-0.45; rotor range 50-800C (122-1472F). High initial bite across a wide temperature range, even when cold, and modulation that works with the factory ABS under hard use. Endless notes it is noisy on the street; it is the step up from MX72 Plus for regular track days.

Racing compounds

Each option below is one choice in the Choose Compound menu. For a group, name your compound in the order notes and Bulletproof Automotive confirms it with your order. Every racing compound needs Endless’s bedding procedure: at 70 to 80 percent of normal pedal effort, bring the rotors gradually to 400C (752F), then let them cool below 150C (302F) before hard use.

Racing Group

ME22: dual braking style; friction 0.33-0.38; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). Developed from ME20 with lower friction for control, for light to mid-weight cars or heavier cars on slower circuits. Endless rates it for street and track.
ME20: trail-braking style; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). High, stable friction at high temperature with low wear, developed for touring cars and rally. Works front or rear, with stock or racing ABS.
N35S: trail-braking style; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Quick, sharp and responsive, with stable modulation under high temperature and load. Endless’s flagship rally compound, also run in FIA GT, and its suggested starting point for drivers new to Endless racing pads.
N05U: trail-braking style; friction 0.46-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). More bite than N35S, popular in sprint-focused Porsche Cup cars.
N05S: trail-braking style; friction 0.45-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Immediate high friction with little pedal effort, used in Japanese rally cars without brake boosters and in European and Australian sprint racing.
N30C: friction 0.50-0.60; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). High initial bite, gentle on rotors and low wear. A rally compound for cars without a brake booster.
MS20: friction 0.32-0.38; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). A low-friction rear pad with a flat torque curve and long life, for club racing cars.
MS25: friction 0.36-0.42; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). Warms up gradually even under heavy braking. Endless pairs it with a higher-friction pad to prevent lock-up.
MS35: friction 0.45-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Mid to high initial bite with good modulation and control, a sprint pad for a wide range of conditions.
ML20A: friction 0.30-0.33; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). A rear compound with lower initial bite to prevent rear lock-up, for lightweight GT cars.
ML35A: friction 0.30-0.38; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Slightly lower friction with excellent modulation and wear, for lighter GT cars.
ML40A: friction 0.32-0.47; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Moderate friction that resists lock-up, an endurance compound.
S55G: Endless publishes no figures. It suits lightweight and front-wheel-drive cars, and the rear of front-wheel-drive cars, with high controllability.
PC35: Endless publishes no figures. More bite than N35S with high braking force and a stable pedal; Endless’s base pad for rally raid.
S41S: Endless publishes no figures. Developed for GT cars, including GT3, under high brake loads.

Sold as their own options

W003: trail-braking style; friction 0.40-0.45. Similar in character to N35S with better wear, tough and stable at high temperature with a linear torque curve; run in rally, touring cars, ALMS and PWC. Circuit only: Endless does not recommend it for the street and notes high rotor wear when cold.
S330: trail-braking style; friction 0.60-0.70; rotor range 300-850C (572-1562F). High friction for sprint racing, with good control at high levels and without accelerating rotor wear; run in Super GT, stock cars and GT2 and GT3 sprint racing.
MA45B: standard braking style; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Endless’s endurance compound: low friction but stable for a whole race, with excellent heat resistance and wear. Most Nurburgring and Spa 24 Hours entrants run it.

Applications

Porsche Boxster: 986 | 1996-2005 | 2.5L and 2.7L
Porsche Boxster: 987 | 2005-2012 | 2.7L and 2.9L

Notes

Each Front or Rear set of Brake Pads for 986 and 987 Boxster cars covers both wheels on one axle
Not for the Boxster S, which takes the EIP072 front pad, or for the 981 and later Boxster
Not for a Boxster with carbon ceramic brakes, which take different pads
For the factory calipers; a car converted to an aftermarket big brake kit takes the pads for those calipers

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
