Will the Ducktail Rear Spoiler for VA cover the holes from my factory spoiler?

Yes. Verus Engineering designed the Ducktail Rear Spoiler for VA to cover the holes left in the trunk lid when a factory WRX spoiler is removed, so the car is left with a clean carbon trailing edge. The spoiler then bonds in place with the roll of 3M VHB double-sided tape supplied in the kit.

Does a ducktail spoiler add drag to a WRX?

Yes, a small amount. Verus Engineering controlled the trailing edge so the spoiler adds rear downforce without increasing drag significantly, which is why it recommends the part for WRX owners on factory power. On those cars, the larger drag of a full rear wing can cost more lap time than the extra downforce gives back.

Can I run the ducktail together with a Verus rear wing?

Yes. Verus Engineering states that the ducktail works alongside its high-efficiency rear wing without harming the performance of the wing, and recommends pairing it with the UCW rear wing for a significant increase in rear downforce. That combination suits a WRX that has moved beyond factory power and runs front aero to match.

How does a ducktail make downforce?

On a standard WRX the top of the trunk produces lift at speed. The ducktail raises the pressure over that surface, and the higher pressure pushes down on the rear of the car. Verus Engineering confirmed the effect with OpenFOAM CFD while shaping the trailing edge to keep the added drag small.

What is the Verus WRX ducktail made from?

It is 100 percent carbon fiber, made in 2x2 twill pre-preg from a billet aluminum mold and finished in a gloss automotive clear with UV resistance. Verus Engineering modeled the surfaces in NX with G3 continuity and developed the shape from scan data, so the spoiler follows the lines of the VA trunk.

Description

Verus Engineering Carbon Ducktail Rear Spoiler for VA Subaru WRX

Verus Engineering’s Carbon Ducktail Rear Spoiler for VA Subaru WRX turns the trailing edge of the trunk, an area that produces lift on the standard car, into a high-pressure zone that pushes the rear down at speed. Verus shaped it in NX with G3 surface continuity, tested it in OpenFOAM CFD and controlled the trailing edge so the drag penalty stays small. That makes it the sensible rear aero part for a WRX on factory power, where the drag of a full wing can cost more lap time than its downforce returns.

Construction

The spoiler is 100 percent carbon fiber, laid up in 2×2 twill pre-preg from a billet aluminum mold and finished in a gloss automotive clear with UV resistance. Verus designed it from scan data of the VA trunk for a close fit, and it covers the holes left when a factory trunk spoiler is removed. It bonds in place with 3M VHB double-sided tape.

Features

CFD-tested in OpenFOAM to confirm the performance gain
Trailing edge controlled to keep the drag increase small
G3 continuous surfaces modeled in NX for a clean appearance
Covers the holes from a removed factory trunk spoiler
Simple install with 3M VHB tape

What’s Included

Carbon fiber ducktail spoiler element
Roll of 3M VHB double-sided tape

Applications

Subaru WRX: VA | 2015-2021

Notes

The Ducktail Rear Spoiler for VA installs with the supplied 3M VHB double-sided tape, guided by a Verus install manual, video and informative packet
Verus lists the spoiler for the VA WRX; it is not listed for the VA STI
For more rear load, Verus pairs the spoiler with the Verus Engineering UCW Rear Wing Kit for VA Subaru WRX, and states it also runs with its high-efficiency wing without hurting wing performance

About Verus Engineering

Verus Engineering designs aerodynamic and performance parts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two engineers founded it in late 2014 as Velox Motorsports and renamed it in 2017 after a trademark dispute; verus is Latin for true or complete. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
