Does the Hood Louver Kit for A90 require cutting the hood?

Yes. The Hood Louver Kit for A90 fits into an opening cut in the factory hood, and Verus Engineering includes a cut-out template so the opening lands in the position its CFD work identified. The carbon louver then attaches with the supplied 3M VHB double-sided tape, and Verus publishes an install video covering the full process.

Does cutting the hood weaken it?

No. Verus Engineering placed the louver in an area that removes minimal underhood structure, and lists retaining the structural integrity of the OEM hood as a feature of the design. The position also sits in a zone of low pressure, so the opening draws hot air out of the engine bay as effectively as possible.

How does a hood louver add front downforce?

Air entering the engine bay builds pressure under the hood, and that pressure pushes up on the front of the car. Verus Engineering placed the louver where it relieves this pressure, so the upward force on the hood falls away and the front end gains grip. Verus describes the louver as a good way to add front grip and cut underhood temperatures on track.

Will the louver lower my engine bay temperatures?

Yes. Verus Engineering reports from CFD and on-track data that the louver dramatically reduces underhood temperatures. Evacuating hot air from the engine bay improves the efficiency of the cooling stack and can extend the life of heat-sensitive components. Verus covers its testing in more detail on its blog, though the product page gives no single temperature figure.

What comes in the hood louver kit?

The kit contains the carbon hood louver, a cut template for the opening, 3M VHB double-sided tape for mounting and a small white Verus vinyl sticker. Verus Engineering shaped the louver from scan data of the Mk5 Supra hood so it follows the original contour, and an install video walks through cutting and fitting.

Description

Verus Engineering Carbon Hood Louver Kit for A90 Toyota GR Supra

Verus Engineering’s Carbon Hood Louver Kit for A90 Toyota GR Supra gives hot, pressurized engine bay air a way out through the hood, from a spot Verus located in CFD as a low-pressure area for the strongest evacuation. Clearing that pressure removes the force pushing up on the hood, which adds front-end downforce, while lower underhood temperatures improve the efficiency of the cooling stack and help heat-sensitive parts last longer. It earns its place on a Supra that runs hard sessions on track, where Verus gathered its data.

Placement and Fit

Verus chose a position where cutting the opening removes minimal underhood structure, so the factory hood keeps its structural integrity, and shaped the carbon louver from scan data to follow the hood contour. A cut-out template marks the opening and 3M VHB double-sided tape holds the louver in place. Through CFD and on-track testing, Verus found the louver dramatically reduced underhood temperatures.

About Verus Engineering

Verus Engineering designs aerodynamic and performance parts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two engineers founded it in late 2014 as Velox Motorsports and renamed it in 2017 after a trademark dispute; verus is Latin for true or complete. Each design starts from a 3D scan of the car, is developed with CFD and finite element analysis and is validated on track, across more than 20 platforms from the GR86 to the C8 Corvette.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
