The Nitron elec-TRON R3 coilover kit for the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S, supplied here with Nitron’s Standalone Front Axle Lift system, combines electronic damping control through Nitron’s proportional solenoid valve with independent manual compression adjustment, giving drivers and engineers control over both the active and mechanical sides of the damping setup simultaneously. Hose mounted reservoirs front and rear allow for straightforward independent adjustment of high and low speed compression, while the Nitron DCU handles overall damping in real time; note that the DCU is required and sold separately. Droplinks are included so the installation is complete without sourcing additional hardware. elec-TRON

Nitron’s elec-TRON system is built around a proprietary proportional solenoid valve fitted to each shock individually on the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S, giving the DCU precise, independent damping control at every corner of the car. G-load, vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver inputs are all monitored simultaneously, with damping adjustments made every 5 milliseconds. A human eye blink takes somewhere between 100 and 150 milliseconds; the elec-TRON system is working at a fraction of that. The suspension is responding to the road and the driver in real time, not reacting after the fact.

Standalone Electronic Damping System

The Nitron DCU is required for the elec-TRON R3 with Standalone FAL kit on the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S and is sold separately. It’s the brain behind the elec-TRON system, transforming a conventional passive damper setup into a precision semiactive platform. Working in conjunction with Nitron’s elec-TRON valve, the DCU continuously processes data from the car every 5 milliseconds; assessing vehicle attitude, braking forces, cornering loads, and acceleration inputs to determine the correct valve position and damping level at any given moment. The result is a suspension system that isn’t set to a fixed damping rate but is constantly optimizing grip and performance in real time based on what the car is actually doing. The DCU is fitted with an adjustable control knob giving the driver access to a range of pre-installed damping maps; Rain, Tour, Sport, and Race; each tuned for a specific driving context. Damping continues to be adjusted continuously within whichever map is selected, so the driver sets the overall character and the system handles the rest.
