Description

SOUL Performance Exhaust System with Dual Wall Tips for 987.2 Porsche Boxster / Cayman

SOUL Performance’s Race Exhaust System for the 987.2 Porsche Boxster and Cayman is a track exhaust that makes no apology for what it is. Developed in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania with Speed Sport Tuning and LN Engineering, it strips roughly nineteen pounds out of the car, built from mandrel-bent .065 inch wall, 2.5 inch T304L stainless with 2.25 inch over-axle piping and a bespoke transmission brace that alone sheds more than five pounds over the factory mounts. It is intentionally very loud, and drone is present even with its resonators, because this system is built for sound and performance on a circuit rather than quiet on a commute. For an owner who wants a street-friendly car, SOUL points to its Valved Exhaust System instead; this one is for the driver whose 987.2 lives at the track and should sound like it.

Development and Testing

SOUL developed the system with shops and drivers who run these cars hard, crediting Speed Sport Tuning and LN Engineering and BRS in the work. The result is a race exhaust engineered around how a 987.2 is actually campaigned: light, strong at the mounts and tuned for sound and flow at full throttle. The transmission brace and reinforced mounting came out of that testing, built to hold the system securely under track loads where the factory hangers struggle.

Construction

Every system is fabricated by hand from mandrel-bent, .065 inch wall, 2.5 inch T304L stainless steel, with full 2.25 inch over-axle piping routed for clearance on the car. The brackets are laser cut, press-brake bent and TIG welded, and every weld is back-purged for a clean, durable joint. A bespoke SOUL transmission mounting brace with Mikalor band clamps and rubber vibration dampeners locates the system and takes more than five pounds off the factory mounting, part of the roughly nineteen pounds the whole system saves over stock, which drops from 46 pounds to 27 with the brackets included.

Sound

This is a loud exhaust, and SOUL is direct about it: the system is designed for track use over sound attenuation, it will be very loud, and drone will be present even with its resonators. That is the point of a race system, and it sounds its best at full bore on a circuit. If you want the bigger sound only when you ask for it, with quiet, low-drone cruising the rest of the time, the SOUL Valved Exhaust System for the 987.2 is the better choice; this race system is built for the track first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which 987.2 models does the Race Exhaust System fit? The Race Exhaust System fits the 987.2 Porsche Boxster, Boxster S, Cayman and Cayman S from 2009 to 2012, with the 2.9 and 3.4 liter flat-six engines. You select manual or PDK at checkout, since the system is built to suit each transmission. It is designed for the 987.2 and does not fit the earlier 987.1 cars.
How loud is it? Very loud, by design. SOUL built this system for track use over sound attenuation, and drone is present even with its resonators, so it is louder and more aggressive than the valved or street systems. If you want quiet cruising on the street, SOUL recommends its Valved Exhaust System for the 987.2 instead.
Is it street legal? It is not CARB certified and is intended for off-road and competition use, so it is not legal for sale or use in California or other states that follow CARB emissions rules, and the buyer is responsible for the law where the car is registered. Many owners run it as a dedicated track exhaust.
What is the SOUL Race Exhaust System made from? It is built in-house from mandrel-bent, .065 inch wall, 2.5 inch T304L stainless steel with full 2.25 inch over-axle piping. The brackets are laser cut, press-brake bent and TIG welded with back-purged welds, and a bespoke transmission brace with Mikalor clamps and rubber dampeners locates the system and saves weight over the factory mounts.
How much weight does it save? About 19 pounds. The system weighs 27 pounds with its mounting brackets, against 46 pounds for the factory exhaust, and the bespoke brace alone sheds more than five pounds over the factory mounts. On a track car that saving low and at the rear is exactly where it helps handling.
Can I run it with aftermarket headers? It is designed around the factory headers or SOUL’s own, which it fits correctly. Headers from other brands can have tolerance differences that create over-axle pipe clearance issues, so SOUL recommends factory or SOUL headers with this system. Installation is a direct bolt-on, though a shop and a lift make the job easier.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
