The COBB Front Mount Intercooler Kit for the Subaru WRX provides a substantial improvement in airflow and cooling efficiency compared to top-mounted intercoolers. COBB Tuning utilizes a vertical flow Garrett core measuring 24″ x 8″ x 3.5″, flowing from bottom to top. This core design enhances packaging within the vehicle and optimizes pipe routing. The end tanks are crafted from formed sheet aluminum and tapered to ensure even pressure distribution across the core, maximizing cooling performance. Each tank is equipped with a billet aluminum machined 2.5″ inlet / outlet, and the entire assembly is powder-coated in black.

Thrust Tunnels

• COBB Tuning incorporates “Thrust Tunnels” on either end of the intercooler core for structural integrity and improved airflow. These tunnels channel air through the intercooler core and the rest of the vehicle’s cooling stack. The passenger side thrust tunnel includes mounts for the Ambient Temperature Sensor. Both tunnels are wrinkle black powder-coated for a clean, durable finish.

Included Support Beam

• The kit includes a bumper support beam as the factory crash bar must be removed for installation. COBB Tuning constructs the support beam with 1/8″ steel plating and 1.5″ DOM tubing, finished in matte black powder coat. The beam integrates a tow hook mount on the passenger side in the factory location.

Mandrel Bent Tubing

• The intercooler piping, designed by COBB Tuning, uses mandrel-bent 2″ and 2.5″ tubing with a wrinkle black powder-coated finish. The “hot” side features a machined clip for seamless compatibility with the factory-style turbocharger outlet. It begins at 2″ before expanding to 2.5″ as it reaches the core inlet. The outlet pipe remains 2.5″ through to the custom billet throttle body adapter. All piping is neatly tucked behind the passenger side bumper cover to minimize the flow path from the turbocharger to the throttle body.
