The 992 Carrera engine is yet another modern marvel from Porsche. While the displacement remains unchanged at 3.0L, the 9A2 Evo engine features numerous upgrades that set it apart from the previous 991.2 model. IPD had the unique opportunity to access a 992 Carrera S for extensive development and testing, allowing for a thorough examination of every engineering and design aspect. This deep scrutiny enabled IPD to create the most efficient Plenum possible. Like all IPD Plenums, the 992 version incorporates a patented “Y” design that optimizes airflow, resulting in significant horsepower and torque gains. Proven to deliver substantial performance improvements across both power bands, the IPD 992 Plenum guarantees an enhanced driving experience for any Carrera.

Engineering

Development began with a 1D simulation to optimize the management of pulse peaks in the intake tract by testing different pipe geometries and using the known engine parameters of the 992. The process then moved to optimizing 2D slices of the plenum in CFD, focusing on areas where adverse pressure gradients could lead to separation. This step allowed for adjustments to the plenum’s curvatures and a better understanding of airflow dynamics at full throttle. Once satisfied with the 2D results, the team advanced to 3D modeling, incorporating all geometry to create a plug-and-play bolt-on part with optimal performance. After hundreds of geometric and CFD iterations, the team achieved not only an increase in mass flow over the stock intake but also a more uniform charge pressure and velocity across both branches.

Testing

The Plenum’s efficiencies significantly reduce initial turbo lag at lower RPMs, allowing quicker access to power and torque. However, the majority of the power and torque gains are realized from 4000rpm to redline, where they are most needed and appreciated. The horsepower and torque gains continue to increase, outperforming the factory air distributor as the engine revs higher. Peak gains of over 30 wheel horsepower and 25 wheel torque are achieved at 6200rpm.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do.
