Does the Aluminum Big SF Intake require a tune on the GT-R?

Yes. The wider tubing changes how the MAF sensors read airflow, so the ECU must be recalibrated before driving. COBB provides free Big SF Intake off-the-shelf maps for supported GT-R models in its Accessport map database. The Accessport is sold separately, and a custom tune is the alternative.

Is the Aluminum Big SF Intake legal to run in California?

Yes. COBB lists the Aluminum Big SF Intake as legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles in all 50 states under California Air Resources Board Executive Order D-660-63, provided it is installed and used according to the COBB application guide. Keep the EO number with the vehicle paperwork.

What model years of the R35 GT-R does this intake fit?

COBB confirms fitment on USDM R35 GT-R models from 2009 through 2018. International coverage includes JDM cars from 2008 through 2016, EDM from 2009 through 2017, and ADM, Gulf Spec, East Asia and South Africa cars from 2009 through 2016. Check the Applications list for your market.

How hard is the install, and does the bumper come off?

No bumper removal is needed. COBB designed the kit to go in without cutting or trimming and without taking off the bumper skin or bumper support. The factory airbox is removed and the aluminum tubes, couplers and filters bolt into place with ordinary hand tools. Flash the Big SF map first.

How is this version different from the Redline carbon fiber Big SF intake?

Both share the same 3.0 inch tubing diameter, filter approach and CARB EO number, and both use the same Big SF Accessport maps. This version uses mandrel bent aluminum tubing finished in wrinkle black powdercoat, while the Redline version swaps that for carbon fiber tubing. The airflow purpose is identical.

Description

COBB Tuning Aluminum Big SF Intake System for R35 Nissan GT-R

COBB Tuning’s Aluminum Big SF Intake System swaps the factory R35 airbox for mandrel bent 3.0 inch aluminum tubing, K&N cone filter elements and 3-ply silicone couplers, finished in wrinkle black powdercoat and covered by CARB EO D-660-63 in all 50 states. It is the sensible first purchase for a GT-R heading toward bigger turbos, and it needs a Big SF map on an Accessport or a custom tune.

Design and Performance

The R35 ECU meters fuel from MAF sensors in the factory intake, and past a certain airflow those sensors max out. The Aluminum Big SF Intake widens the tubing so each sensor reads lower for the same air mass, keeping it accurate beyond what the stock system was sized for. COBB has run it on builds over 600 horsepower and 600 lb-ft at the wheels, cars with further upgrades, so read that as a ceiling it supports rather than a gain it delivers.

Features

Mandrel bent 3.0 inch aluminum tubing
3-ply steel reinforced silicone couplers
Pre-oiled, cleanable and reusable custom K&N cone filter elements
Wrinkle black powdercoated finish
Bolts in without cutting, trimming or removing the bumper skin or bumper support
More audible turbo spool and bypass valve venting
Made in the USA

Applications

Nissan GT-R: R35 | 2009-2018 | USDM
Nissan GT-R: R35 | 2008-2017 | International markets (JDM 2008-2016, EDM 2009-2017, ADM, Gulf Spec, East Asia and South Africa 2009-2016, V-Spec 2009-2010)

Notes

The Accessport is not included; the intake requires a COBB Big SF Intake map or a custom tune
50-state legal with CARB EO D-660-63 when used in accordance with the COBB application guide
The 600 whp and 600 lb-ft figure comes from COBB builds with additional power modifications and is not a gain from the intake alone

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
