• Featuring an integrated frontpipe, bespoke midpipe resonator, and AWE’s patented drone-canceling solution, 180 Technology®, the Touring Edition delivers a full-bodied, rasp-free K20 soundtrack unachieved by any of its peers. • As exhaust gases exit the K20 engine and flow into an AWE 180 Technology equipped resonator, they pass through strategically located ports, and into reflection chambers. Sound waves, carried by these exhaust gasses, bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. By controlling the size and location of the ports and the chambers, AWE can also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies. All of this with a straight-through design. In other words, all the power, none of the drone.

What is 180 Technology?

• AWE’s 180 Technology operates through a meticulous process – as exhaust gases leave the engine, they flow into a resonator equipped with this cutting-edge technology. Inside, the gases move through carefully designed ports into designated reflection chambers.
• In these chambers, sound waves are reflected off the walls. AWE’s team of acoustic engineers precisely calculates the dimensions and placement of these ports and chambers to meet the specific acoustic requirements of each vehicle model. By fine-tuning these elements, they achieve precise control over the timing of the sound waves’ exit from the chambers. This process introduces a sound wave that is phase-shifted by 180 degrees back into the main exhaust flow, effectively neutralizing undesirable sounds.

Single 3” to Triple 2.5” Design

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During research and development, AWE conducted an extensive evaluation of the factory valve’s behavior under various driving conditions. They determined that there is no significant change in volume between modes requiring a valve. The valve remains closed only in comfort mode, opening upon reaching a throttle threshold. In Sport and Sport+ modes, the valve stays open, with Sport+ introducing burbles from the ECU. In the stock configuration, the exhaust routes through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce interior volume and drone-prone frequencies, and through the center when the valve is open.
