Kline Innovation Valvetronic Exhaust System for 992 Porsche 911 Turbo

The Porsche 992 Turbo features both progressive and retro design elements, boasting a striking twin turbo flat 6 engine with an output of 573hp. However, due to manufacturer and emissions restrictions, the exhaust sound is somewhat underwhelming. At Kline, the mission is to transform these subdued turbo sounds into the roar of a supercar.

The Sound

• The removal of the heavy, chambered rear silencer and its replacement with a lightweight, F1-grade Inconel 625 X pipe, and fully bypassable lightweight Inconel silencers, greatly reduces weight while elevating the exhaust pitch to a more exotic level. The HJS motorsport catalysts or racing pipes, significantly enhances the sound, augmenting the high-pitched silencer section into an exotic scream. Kline’s innovative rear valvetronic setup allows for stealthy, subdued driving with the valves closed, while offering a raw, unrestricted sound with valves open. The addition of beautifully crafted F1-grade pre-preg carbon fiber exhaust tips adds the perfect finishing touch to the exhaust.

Performance

• The Porsche turbo platforms provide enormous tuning potential. Replacing the stock catalysts with racing pipes and adjusting the subsequent air-fuel ratios can boost performance by over 40hp and 55nm of torque. Pairing this with a full ECU remap could result in gains exceeding 80hp.

Stainless Steel

• Stainless Steel is a material frequently chosen in the exhaust manufacturing industry. Its strength, thermal stability, cost-effectiveness, and easy workability make 304-grade stainless steel a popular choice. However, the material’s weight and limited tensile strength can be drawbacks when applied to high-performance exhaust components, and the necessity for thicker walls might negatively influence the exhaust sound.

Inconel

• Inconel 625, on the other hand, is famous for its durability and heat resistance. This material, often used in constructing crucial parts like high-performance jet engine exhaust turbine blades, is the go-to for Formula One exhaust systems and prestigious hypercar projects such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. Despite its resilience to temperatures beyond 1000°C and its lightweight design focus, Inconel brings unique challenges due to its intricate machinability and specialized welding requirements.

Carbon Fiber

• Lastly, the Carbon Fiber-reinforced polymer, known for its impressive strength-to-weight ratio, is in high demand in sectors such as automotive and aerospace. The integration of carbon fiber can lead to weight reduction and increased stiffness, enhancing the vehicle’s overall performance.
