The G82/G83 M4, equipped with a 3.0L twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine generating 510hp, proudly carries forward the esteemed legacy of the M3. As is the case with all turbocharged engines, there exists significant potential for enhancing the exhaust sound and power response through exhaust tuning, opening up exciting possibilities for improved performance.

The Sound

• By removing the OPF filter and replacing the stock 600cpsi catalysts with high flow HJS cores or racing pipes, the exhaust sound is significantly enhanced while turbo spool is drastically improved, resulting in increased power and reduced spool time. These improvements are further complemented by the inclusion of twin 70mm dual oversized downpipes, enabling the engine to fully unleash its capabilities.
• The addition of a 20-degree x pipe in the center section raises the pitch of the exhaust, creating a more immersive sonic experience that complements the exhilarating scream of the inline 6 engine.
• Working in tandem with the car’s stock electronic actuated valve system, the rear silencer section provides unrestricted flow when the valve is open, bypassing the silencer to deliver optimal performance and an aggressive sound. When the valve is closed, exhaust gases are directed through a series of chambers and acoustic-filled sections, carefully tuned to enhance low rpm torque while maintaining a quiet volume during cruising speeds.
• The rear section is impeccably finished with either stainless steel or F1 grade pre-preg inconel double-walled tails with Carbon Fiber as an upgrade option, adding a touch of sophistication and performance to the overall design.

Stainless Steel

• Within the exhaust manufacturing realm, the predominant industry standard centers around the utilization of 304-grade stainless steel. This specific stainless steel grade offers a harmonious blend of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It empowers the construction of exhaust systems that strike a commendable equilibrium between affordability and functionality, ensuring enduring durability. It is important to acknowledge, however, that stainless steel tends to be relatively heavier compared to alternative materials. While it shares a similar density with regular steel, it possesses a slightly lower tensile strength. This limitation curtails the potential for fabricating high-performance exhaust components using stainless steel. Furthermore, in terms of sound characteristics, the thicker sidewalls necessitated by stainless steel may result in a somewhat subdued and less dynamic exhaust note in comparison to the aforementioned materials.

Inconel

• When it comes to ensuring durability and heat resistance in the aerospace industry, the utilization of Inconel 625 stands as a paramount factor. This remarkable material finds extensive applications in the production of critical components, notably including exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is notably the favored choice for Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers engaged in prestigious hypercar projects like the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. These applications greatly benefit from Inconel’s exceptional capacity to withstand extreme temperatures surpassing 1000°C while emphasizing lightweight design.
• Inconel exhibits extraordinary properties, boasting remarkably high tensile strength and outstanding thermochemical stability. Its tensile strength can be favorably compared to that of titanium, resulting in an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Consequently, Inconel permits the utilization of thin sidewall materials while preserving structural integrity, facilitating the creation of lightweight components that exhibit exceptional resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel presents certain challenges due to its challenging machinability and specific welding requirements, necessitating specialized skills and time-intensive techniques. Moreover, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

Carbon Fiber

• With an unparalleled tensile strength to weight ratio surpassing that of all metals, carbon fiber reinforced polymer exhibits exceptional properties. Its lightweight nature, combined with remarkable tensile strength, enables the molding of components into virtually any desired shape. To ensure top-notch quality, the company exclusively employs aerospace and Formula 1 grade pre-preg carbon fiber, which undergoes a meticulous curing process in an autoclave under high pressure and temperature. This meticulous process guarantees the production of carbon fiber that is not only exceptionally strong but also remarkably lightweight, rendering it ideal for even the most demanding and extreme conditions.
